Arresting the Huriyat Conference leaders was so wrong on all levels. Just because you don't want them to meet the Pak NSA, you shouldn't be arresting these people for no reason. When such talks are scheduled, we should put a pre-condition that the Pak representatives should not meet anybody outside Indian govt authorities and only if they agree to the pre-condition should we schedule these meetings. But targeting Huriyat just for sending out a message to Pak is wrong IMO.

"A Study in self-righteousness, boilerplate and deflection" :

Every newspaper in India carried the same headline on Friday, the 9th of October: 'Modi breaks silence on Dadri lynching.' It says something about the breathless desperation of the Indian press to hear the prime minister say something, anything, that could be interpreted as his disapproval of political barbarism, that there wasn't, in fact, a word in his speech about the Dadri lynching.

Modi began by quoting and congratulating himself.

The country, said Modi, had to stay united; only unity, brotherhood and harmony and peace could take the nation forward. Petty men tried to advance their political self-interest by making nonsensical public statements. He asked his countrymen to ignore these statements, indeed to ignore Narendra Modi himself, if he were to make a statement of that kind. (Like all political narcissists, Modi enjoys referring to himself in the third person.)

What we are witnessing today is very interesting battle for social engineering in India.

On one hand,we have the left liberal intellegensia whose narrative and leaning is informed by the Congress rule and alliance to the left. So, the reactions are not unexpected from the media house who pretty much come from same places or the writers, directors, artists etc.

On other hand, we have BJP /RSS which are really cultural organization with fundamental cultural values. So, it is but expected that they will try to impose these on the society, irrespective of what the nature of mandate was for. They are in process for probing. Probing existing ideas and institutions and challenging the existing discourse. Trying to test the limits up to which this can be pushed. MOdi's silence is not without reason.

What we are witnessing is the escalation in battle of idelogies. Fundamentally nothing has changed in the country. But the battle for perception is on for young and old. I guess this was expected once the country voted for right leaning party. This was bound to have escalated and polarized things. And it is happening as we speak.

Looks like Arun Shourie has made some scathing comments on Modi. While his views on the economic policies should be given some heed, but on social policies it is like Advani and nau sau choohe kha kar billi haj ko chali.

Snakes like him and Advani should be kept as far away from a dialogue on liberalism and intolerance as possible. Modi is reaping the evil that these fecks sowed.

Shourie is still pissed that he didn't get a high profile ministry. Venting is frustration out.

The Narendra Modi-led government has accused senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy of promoting enmity and hatred between Hindus and Muslims in his book ‘Terrorism in India’, saying it contained “hate speech” against a community.

The Centre sought the dismissal of Swamy’s plea challenging the constitutional validity of penal provisions on speeches and writings that could cause enmity and hatred among communities.

The MHA said if the provision is not retained in the law books, there may be riots or commission of offences. “There may be disharmony and ill will between various classes of the citizens of India,” it said.

In his PIL, Swamy has also asked the top court to restrain courts from proceeding with the hate speech cases filed against him subsequent to writing the book in 2007.

According to the government, Swamy has indulged in hate speech through the book. “… it’s theme, it’s language, it’s innuendoes, the similes it employs and the moral of its story, if any – in order to ascertain whether the offending passages read in the context of the book as a whole fall within the mischief of section 153 A. The book to be considered in all its aspects as it contains matter which promotes feelings of enmity and hatred between Hindus and Muslims in India. Therefore the petitioner has violated sections of IPC,” stated the government affidavit.

Swamy was challenging the hate speech laws in court. :hmmm:Freedom of speech should include the right to offend , unfortunately our constitution imposes unreasonable and arbitrary restrictions.
