vvvslaxman
gayle is unpredictable but more often than not - he gets out. But you cannot declare an innings based on his unpredictability. Definite "what if " will cross captain's mind. Link to comment

maniac
Aussies have gotten owned for their over aggressive strategies,You will find most miraculous comeback victories against them for a reason but they are far and few in between compared to the amount of success they have had...They are also always in the top bracket in the world since the beginning of test cricket consistently for a reason Link to comment
Laaloo
Tbf the 600 declaration doesn't seem so bad now, our bowlers conceded almost 450.. even then some people were complaining of late declaration Anyway 300+ on day 5 pitch vs WI is hardly a bold decision, even 200 is enough for those sloggers.. not a bold decision but doubt if kaptaan kool would have made this decision even if we were down in the series Link to comment
vvvslaxman
But definitely newzealand has good attack Boult' date='Southie and Wagner vvery good bowlers.[/quote'] But 306 in 95 overs. Is a risk. First inning they made 317. They have players like bravo, gayle, chanders. Even the tail,is okayish. Huge risk for any bowling line up let alone NZ line up Link to comment
vvvslaxman
not a bold decision but doubt if kaptaan kool would have made this decision even if we were down in the series 100% it would not have happened even with this bowling attack Link to comment
putrevus
well done Brendon for wining the series. Those who are saying it is not bold decision, when was last time any Indian captain declared with series tied and potential to lose the series. Link to comment
vvvslaxman
Irresponsible McCollum won the series hear dhoni lol Link to comment
mancalledsting
Very brave and sporting declaration.Looks like it is paying off already, compare this with, for example our Kaptaan against same NZ in 2009 waiting to get lead over 600 runs folks. It is right folks 600 fricking runs, end result was very predictable draw with 8 wickets down and running out of time. So our great kaptaan and his great captaincy predates from 2009 and we are still reeling under it. I still get wound up thinking about that stupid declaration.... We also lost rankings points as a result of only winning 1-0 Link to comment

nevada
WI batting line up is collapse prone as is and more so on the 5th day of a test match. So while this might seem like a risky move, it is actually a calculated risk with high probability of success. That being said, I don't think Dhoni would have made a declaration in a similar situation. Link to comment
CSK Fan
having a popgun attack like ours doesn't help On the contrary putting confidence into the attack definitely helps and history is rife with example of weak bowling attacks pulling off wins with such scores. There is a reason 300 is very rarely chased in test history, no matter the bowling attack. However, when your captain make it obvious he has no confidence in you, well, what do you think will happen? keith
It is a two way street. Success breeds confidence but confidence also breeds success. yes, I agree. I think the Windies sending a very weak team to NZ built NZ's confidence to the point where they could win against India. That in turn gave them the confidence to beat a much improved Windies team in the Caribbean. Link to comment

Dhoni just followed his footsteps of playing for safety first, which ultimately impacted the mindset of this team which has stopped believing in winning anything outside SC. These two captains costed team India at least 8 overseas victories in SA,NZ,WI and Eng. Link to comment
