Umran picks up a wicket

And then he has suddenly started to bowl the channel and move the ball both ways to Williamson.

So, the ability is there.

How did Arshdeep bowl?

And Chahar?

Offcourse Umran will be under scanner ,no matter how bad the swing sultans fared they will given jamai Raja treatment

Both of them struggled to maintain control on swing. Chahar bowled poor length too full, even some full tosses.

Arshdeep better but bowled one ball outside leg stump to be dispatched for 4.

His first overs was good when he got outswing for LHB.

Then the swing reduced and he looked innocuous as usual.

Bowled a good bouncer inbetween.

Apart from a 141 k ball, his speeds were very low at 128 k to 135 k.

Looked floaty, gentle and innocuous. Apart from the odd ball, he hardly got swing.

And after a couple of overs, looked like cannon fodder floating the ball up gently at 125 k to 132 k.

We are repeating the same mistake again of having too many swing dependant bowlers.

True.

See, still looking for pace rather than thinking in terms of swing or line and length even after 10 years of int cricket. This is unthinkable in  India.

Zaheer says cut down to extend your career for another 10 yrs:phehe:

He thinks very high of himself, only second to Wasim Akram

Stephen Fleming seems to be strongly against raw pace.  Was saying that lots of shots have been invented to counter the same.

One now gets to understand why CSK kept Mark Wood on the bench and Hangargekar is sitting on the sidelines.

Looks like, it's not Dhoni but Fleming is the one responsible for CSK trundlers.

Just saw the temperature at Christchurch. Rainy n pretty chilly. Not ideal for quick bowling.
How did Lockie n Milne fare?

Also, Umran should have definitely been in the Bangladesh series. That was a no/brainer and the selectors fkd it up again. U don’t introduce someone to a new format and then drop the guy despite doing fine.

But Simarjeet did play who is probably as quick or maybe faster than Hangargekar.

Even Umran wasn't bowling at his quickest. Very cold weather.

Perfectly illustrates the difference in mindset and what separates a fast bowler from the rest.
And skills just not simply imply swing. Bowling fast, maintaining that level of fitness and to get the timing right for pace is itself a huge skill combined with natural ability.

Simarjeet was picked as a swing bowler and incidentally he is sharp too.

And another point is .... since Team India is looking for swing bowlers upfront then why not Simarjeet who can hit the deck hard for bounce, if the ball is not swinging. And is pacy too. This is the part that I don't understand.

Simarjeet didn't play any T20 and VH trophy game for Delhi this season. He maybe injured.

Again 4 wickets today for Hangargekar in VHT. Took out opposition's best batsman. Hits the good length area consistently at good pace.

He got Riyan Parag too else he wud hv won the match too with agressive strokeplay..after seeing how close the match ended

CSK and MSD will bench him again as he need to gain "bit more experience".
Anyway MSD like Deepak Chahar, can't risk his place for this Hangargekar who apparently is too fast for MSD's keeping.

Thats kind of ironic because the Kiwi team under him were absolute bunnies of Shoaib Akhtar. Akhtar at one point averaged under 10 vs them. Their best bowler was Shane Bond. Wonder where he is coming from.

Yeah bro. Was about to comment the same thing when I heard his commentary. When Umran started bowling he started his crying about how pace opens up a lot hitting options and ****. No wonder Dhoni and Fleming get along so well at CSK.

NZ has never really supported quicks.

Bond was their first pacer above Fast-medium range. And after that Ferguson.

The other Kiwi quicks have lost pace and they often play a team full of swing bowlers.

And they have rarely been a good touring team as they lack pace in test matches.

And bro, Zaheer has generally been bitter about Umran too. Said today that at Umran's pace, the batsman would have a comfortable time hitting the ball.

Yes 145-150 is so comfortable to bat against. what about 130! That must be really uncomfortable to play. Indian ex-cricketers are so mentally backward. It's nauseating. That's why we need foreign coaches from Australia or South Africa who understand the value of pace.
