Another point must be made .... Sports is never about just results. Entertainment and enjoyment play big parts too. Otherwise why will we watch the games !

 

Dravid has to look at himself and Tendulkar to get this point.  Dravid averaged 52.3 after 162 tests .... and Tendulkar averaged 53.8 after 200 tests. Very similar numbers.  But Tendulkar captured the imagination of the entire cricketing world due to his exciting brand of batting in the 1990s. And Dravid did not. And Tendulkar himself lost some popularity after his batting became more workmanlike post 2003 after he got tennis elbow. 

 

If Dravid tries to create a team of workmanlike players, people won't watch India play 

 

And he seems to have achieved the " twin objectives " of a boring brand of cricket that fails to produce results too.

Umran was bowling lot slower when he debuted, fortunately he picked up his pace in NZ.

I guess, there are clear instructions from the TM/Bowling Coach to focus more on line and length. It's not a bad thing but such instructions to a debutants can be confusing. 

Umesh in the past has called out how he get more freedom under Kohli, and he was most successful under him. It seems the pre-Kohli era is crawling back.

Prasidh I don't think is that quick, doesn't come across as some one who is hungry enough, I rated him very highly, after the west Indies series last year at home thought he was hitting peak but against eng and wi recently he was way below par.

Let's be honest so far in his first outing kuldip looked below average, he should get more games to settle in, he has wicket taking ability, judge him by his strike rate not eco, my fear right now with these young bowlers is that there is no clarification from management, saini came in and lost now, prasidh did well in his first few series but a few bad outings and has been dropped, dayal was called up as a net bowler last year and even drafted in the test squad but arshdeep gets picked ahead of in the odi team, note dayal was the highest wicket taker last year in vht, Mohsin sadly is nowhere close to selection, ipl is his only forward stepping point, so we now have a pool of umran, Sen, prasidh, Siraj, dayal and possibly tyagi, rest are realistically far away from the selectors radar, time to start easing out Umesh, ishant from test squads, same with shami/shardul in odis and bhuvi in t20s.

TBH...bowlers these days hide injury a lot.
Prasidh was aggressive in his first series vs England and was trying to go for wickets, he picked a 4fer in his first game and was hitting 143k. He was also not shy on rubbing the batters and I liked that attitude, despite on debut he showed confidence in his abilities.
However, in recent series he seemed lot restrained (may be due to hiding injury) and his natural aggression was missing. That impacted his performance a bit (although his stats are still very good in white ball).

Saurabh Kumar the sla has been a little underwhelming in this Bangladesh A test so far. Expected him to run through the line up at least in one of the innings.

Most of our past players seem to have real dislikes for new players ... especially when they can become really good eventually but are displaying beginner's weaknesses now.
