Shardul’s bowling has definitely regressed. He may contribute more than Unadkat with the bat though.
Unadkats a better test bowler and would extract more bounce. But pace wise I think they are similar. I don’t think Unadkat even crossed 135 ( more like 128-132 kph iirc) in the last test match he played. Also with Unadkat in the side, and the way these guys think, he will 100 percent open the bowling attack. At least Shardul would be treated like the way an ‘all-rounder’ should be.

Unadkat bowled a fastest of 139 k and I saw quite a few at 136 to 138 k.

And even his 130 k+ balls were hitting the bat hard.

Was looking at the fall of wickets in the Ranji Final.

Ishan Porel has looked the bounciest and quickest of the lot visually. He gets a lot of lift from the pitch and is very West Indian in his approach to bowling, with an open chested action and high release point, pounding the pitch hard.

Good enough FC average of 26 after 39 FC matches.  Good candidate for a tall medium-fast bounce bowler.

He can bat too, wont do worse than current Thakur

Yes.  As long as Unadkat is a replacement for Shardul, I am ok with him.

Problem would be if he and Shardul play together to cover for the known batting failures of KLPD, Pujara and Kohli.

Yes, Sen Bumrah and Siraj would be a good line up provided they all are fit. Will be difficult to drop Shami now. I don’t think Sen is going to be included in LOIs anytime soon. Forget test cricket.

But it’s weird don’t u think? The most promising bowlers get handed over IPL contracts. And then these bowlers are always introduced first  in the shortest format for internationals. And then they can’t be included in test cricket coz they were with the LOI squad. If that’s how it’s gonna be, we’d always end up choosing B grade bowlers for test cricket.

Ind should start looking beyond Bumrah, he was already not playing home tests. and with re-occurring injuries he may have to chose 2 formats.

About time we remove 'spinners' from the title. No one talks of them here :giggle:

we could speak of some balls by spinners that were >130. I remember (shahid) afridi bowling a couple

The Ranji Trophy final just showed the limited numbers of the athletically gifted in this country. Two of the best domestic sides in a cricket worshipping nation and not a single bowler touched 140 kph.

Akashdeep probably clocks around 132-133 on average with a highest of 138 kph and is the fastest of the lot but not that impressive as a bowler

Ishan Porel averages 80 mph with a fastest of 133 kph

Unadkat is probably the 2nd fastest but he bowls the best.

Sakariya swings the ball but bowls around 130 kph. The rest like Jani bowl consistently around 122 kph.

Heck peak Bhuvi clocked 90 mph but these guys will never touch that mark

The likes of Nagarkoti, Mavi, Tyagi, Sen, Malik, Arshdeep need to be constantly monitored and given access to the best coaches for their actions etc.

Need to squeeze every ounce of ability out of them.

Pitches ,time of the year, their team combination, etc matter

First and second factors most important to field a side, unless and untill we improve our pitches drastically you won't see domestic sides fielding more pacers with bounce and pace

They will apply the very formula which is tried and tested and had given them favourable results based on conditions

Moreover, not every pacer has the nuances to make whatever conditions they are playing in ,help them

Historically very few of them did that

Speed readings in domestic red ball matches and domestic 50 over matches give lower readings in most cases. Maybe by around 3 kph to 5 kph

Unadkat was clocking higher speeds in the test match he played in.

Porel was getting a lot of bounce and hitting the bat hard. Batsmen got hurried a lot.

All the best fats bowlers play for other teams lol. I can think of atleast 6 or 7 off the top of my head.

There is more I am sure. Pitches are not conducive to fast bowling so they won't play as often unfortunately.

I dont think the speeds were way off. They didn't look visually quick either .

I thought Pordl was quicker than this. That was my impression from around 5 years ago. But that doesn't seem to be the case.

Porel was visibly quicker in 2017 untill he got injured in 2018 U-19 and the matches which he played afterwards he started bowling in 125-128's.
He is always inconsitent with his speeds, sometimes in 133-138 range and somedays he oscillates in 128-134 range

speed guns are not accurate in domestic most times. Akashdeep is the fastest among these two teams' pacers and bowls in 135-144K range. Mukesh Kumar is 130-135.K. Porel is mainly 130-135K. his bounce makes him look quicker. Unadkat is similar to Porel.
