Forward Defence Posted September 12, 2023 Posted September 12, 2023 Hardik's second spell was clutch tonight and probably the main reason behind our victory. Guy has become dependable. Axar's bowling has seriously regressed. No turn whatsoever, just darts. Jadeja is certainly the better bowler but his batting is meh. Wont be a bad idea to promote Jaddu up the order against Bangladesh with their slow left armers. Mosher, Lord and Suhaan 1 2
tapandrun Posted September 12, 2023 Posted September 12, 2023 Looks like Thakur is Ind's enforcer in middle overs. Bowls rubbish and gets 1/2 balls to get wkts fr the team. Axar and Jadeja both are same, today ball was turning forJadeja else he is also look toothless, Only plus with Jadeja is his fielding. And its obvious again this TM needs lefty if leg spinner/left arm orthodox is bowling bit they didn't select a proper left haded batter (Assuming T.Verma will not make it to WC squad and Iyer will replace Kishan). This team management is clueless. Frustrated and express bowling 2
MK55 Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 One good quality of Pandya’s bowling is that he has that ability to step it up in crucial situations. We saw that in this match, when he increased his pace and tried to disrupt the batters focus. This shows that he’s fearless and has that belief to get the batsman no matter what the situation is. And then there’s also another category of bowlers, who get intimidated when the going gets tough.

Nikhil_cric Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 The depressing thing about Indian cricket is that no matter what even someone like Kohli says about fast bowlers this and fast bowlers that, we still went into the previous World Cup with only 3 fast bowlers + Hardik Pandya and similarly for CT 2017. Yet again, we saw evidence that even on a supposedly spinning pitch, we needed a seam bowler to come in and choke the batting lineup when they looked comfortable hitting our best spinner, Kuldeep. The last time we won a 50 over ICC tournament was when we had 3 genuine seamers and when our 2nd spinner Jadeja contributed with the bat as well(vs SA and ENG) Ever since then, we have not had Jadeja do anything with the bat. He failed in the 2015 World Cup with bat and with ball against top sides. Failed in CT 2017 with ball in both losses vs SL and in the final. Failed with bat as well. In 2019 World Cup, Chahal did OK and Jadeja seemed to be in good form but Kuldeep was horrible. Again, we missed the extra pacer especially in the match against England where spinners got smashed . The seamers together went at less than 6 RPO and took 6 wickets between them while spinners went at 8 RPO . Pandya had Roy when they were 49 but fraud Dhoni didn't want a review. They went on to make 160 opening partnership. We could have beaten that overrated team even then had we played the extra fast bowler through the middle instead of these profligate spinners. We must play at least 3 genuine fast bowlers in all conditions no matter what. And no more than 2 spinners in exceptionally spin friendly conditions. We are blessed with someone like Hardik and we can actually have at least 36 overs( on a good day, 40) of high quality pace and a high quality wrist spinner offering another 10. Just 4 overs of part time spin is needed. We cannot keep sacrificing genuine batting depth and depth in pace attack for so-called spin bowling allrounders. Have 1 of them if you must but 2 when you can slot in the extra quick is absolutely dumb.

We didn't quite have the options to really go with 3 outright seamers in 2019, jadav was contributing with the ball, batting had no dept or middle order options, it was only after 2019 did we try out saini, Siraj, shardul etc, the biggest scam the selectors and kohli played out was going with DK, rayudu, jadhav and Pandey in the 2018 Asia cup, this was the time when iyer, pant where setting domestic cricket on fire, zero clarity at the time, selection was horrendous

We won't have any pacers because we won't play this template and develop the extra pacer. And then, months before the World Cup, they'll give a couple of games to one guy and he wont do anything extraordinary so they'll fall back on spin all-rounders. Siraj before 2019, Kuldeep Sen recently. India picks only 3 genuine pacers because TM don't believe in the fast bowlers as much as they claim including Kohli. Or probably it's because Kohli himself can't play any decent spin on a spinning track. Whatever the case, even in 2019 , they really could have got Ishant Sharma into the squad ahead of a spinner. He was at his fastest, getting bounce and very accurate and even swinging the kookaburra. express bowling 1

The extra pacer in place of one of Kuldeep or Chahal who are both duds with bat in hand? Why would Ishant have been bad? He was even called as standby. Are you seriously saying that TM thought Kaul, Chahar and Unadkat would be good bowlers but Ishant who was averaging very high speeds in Test cricket , could bowl long spells at pace, got more bounce than any of our bowlers and could hit a good line and length is even comparable to the likes of those guys? Even a past it Ishant did fairly well in the IPL this year. . There was no harm in giving him a few matches to see how he went ahead of the World Cup if they didn't have anyone else.

In white ball cricket you have to also take into account that for over rate reasons you need a cojple of spin options in the team. Even in places where conditions suit pace bowling you have them playing at least 1 spinner because of this, even in tests.
