Is it time to look beyond Ashwin-Jadeja for Away Tests?

Jadeja is NOT a regular bowler. Nor is he good enough to be a pure batsmen. He has been punching above his weight for a while. But in India, lots of part timers have shined over the year. That does NOT mean than we always carry a bits and pieces cricketer over regular ones Problem with Dhoni is, he is a street smart cricketer. He can make best use of limited resources, move them around smoothly, make surprising changes. This doesn't work in tests, particularly over seas LOIs and T20s are like street fights. You can suddenly spring a surprise, give a sucker punch and win the match. A street smart person will usually always prevail even over talented fighters A Test series is like a war. A captain has to be like a general building long time strategies. Each test is a battle. In war you use your best possible specialists, not bits and pieces soldiers. You don't try to go for one sucker punch or one big strike to end all. You weaken the enemy slowly, target their weak points over a period before finishing them off. Dhoni is street smart. But expecting a street smart captain to prevail in tests is like expecting an ad hoc volunteer to be a brain surgeon. The former will come good in small crisis andd play his part, but you need a specialist to do brain surgery
Yes, its quite obvious Dhoni doesnt have the knowledge of technical aspects, strategy to become a test captain. He is more fit for ODIs. Just the way he has handled Umesh Yadav itself is a travesty. In fact, whole of Indian cricket has done a disservice to that guy. He is one of the rare bowlers who can swing the ball at pace and yet he has been sidelined forever in favor of much inferior bowlers. Okay, he might be a bit wayward but that's what you get with a real pacer and a strike bowler. He gets you wickets and he is an attacking option in tests and as he gets more wickets, his confidence will increase and he will become consistent. When Dhoni can give hundreds of chances to Rohit Sharma, Jadeja why not for a genuine pacer like Umesh ? Now they again picked him for the ODI side which is a format which doesnt suit him. When he goes for some runs on a flat track, he will be sidelined again. This is sheer destruction of talent.

And what is that guy Fletcher doing? Eating and eating only? he is the one supposed to advise Dhoni and look at whom to include Instead we get fruits like Binny in the team.
I think you will find Fletcher has zero influence, not allowed. The man who is your hero in avatar is the power behind these matters and uses his prime csk asset dhoni to implement their finicial/power games startegies. Like for example picking players from csk to keep your hero happy

These moronic excuses that pitches were not conducive or they were flat need to stop. Indian spinners are so overrated , forget being match winners, they do not even do the minimum things expected from a half decent spinners. Enough of these HTBs it started from Kumble and it needs to end now.

tbf,he has done okay overseas despite the pitches and Dhoni using him negatively.Averages 46 which looks bad but even Herath averages 39 in these 3 countries after all those years.Jaddu is still young, but somehow hes not a bowler and gets hate bcoz he doesnt flight it which is ridiculous.Everyone has his own style.Agree that hes not an allrounder and should bat at 9. Agree about Dhoni fully

Stop blaming binny. He won us a test in England... simply was dropped... If he had continued we would have won series..at least that's what I heard Mayanti saying...
He was the lucky charm

Your avatar is picture of srini which indicates you are a fan of him. Plus you always rush to eulogise and defend dhoni which further fits in this

OP has a wild buffallo in his avatar. does it mean he is a fan of that wild buffallo? :giggle: on topic, no. to keep it simple, it's our batsmen who needs to be blamed for the last 2 losses. It's not fair to replace our bowlers all the time.

Its not batsman v bowlers union. Not fair.... blah blah. The objective is to win games not worry about whats fair or not. You readily admit batting to be balmed, so does it not make sense to sterengthen batting?

All flopped in the last 2 tests. Even if we drop jadeja or ashwin we can't expect our bolwers to rip through the batsmen. Yes, Dhoni is a bad captain but one should not forget missed catches and negative lines costing us matches. Only option is our bats should step up to score loads of runs and put pressure on the poms like we did in 4th innings lords. Adding more batmen will only weaken the bowling, one good spell they fall like pack of cards.

Ashwin has to play as an all rounder. Ashwin plus 4 fast bowlers is the obvious bowling combiation on 99% of non subcontinent pitches. But I guess dhoni needs Vinnay kumar to play 4 pace bowlers.

Ashwin bowled all of 14 overs mostly in seaming conditions :hmmm: We are discarding him again? He has lot of room for improvement. But need to be a bit more patient. But we can have either Jaddu or Ashwin not both overseas. Having them both means we are trying to boost batting strength rather than bowling strength.

yeah Ashwin and 4 pacers is the way to go.

we can have second spinner too if Ashwin is contributing with the bat but an attacking option, a leg spinner who has good control, not a left arm spinner. We need to try different option. Even after failing, keep playing same player wont change the result.
