thecricketer Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 It was against Eng in the 50 Overs WC 2003 Match in SA, India played Javagal Srinath, Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra, all three were bowling 145+ kmh speeds. (Now we have shammi, umesh and Aaron who can bowl in high 140's).

So the quick are--bhuvi,shami,varun and umesh.Would personally prefer ISHANT over VARUN. more experienced and economical.Will get great bounce from the pitch.

[ Aaron, Umesh, Shami and Ishant ]. Bumrah could be the 5th. Any new quick guys on the horizon ? How are Chama Milind, Avesh Khan and Monu Singh shaping up. All these u19 seamers have pace.

Exactly, for the first time in India's cricket history we have a bowling team who can bowl at 145+ speeds. I believe bowlers always wins the matches while batsmen only saves them.

I cant remember when was the last time our bowlers dominated Lankans in SC under Dhoni. Right from the word go it felt like Lungans will find it difficult to score anywhere around 250 runs.

Adding Bhuvi/Shami to this attack will make it pretty decent looking in Aussie/NZ condition.

Srinath vs. South Africa, ran through the batting order in the second innings with first ball dismissal of Daryl Cullinan and Rhodes (best bats in the team outside of Kristen at that time). 2. Srinath vs Australia in 1997 at Eden Gardens where buoyed by a massive 600 odd score and only ganguly for assistance, he wrecked the aussies. 3. Not the speedster we dream of, but much like the dark knight, he wasnt the hero we deserve (we ground him into dust on flat tracks against jayasuriya time and time again)... Venkatesh Prasad at Durban against South Africa. Over shadowed by Alan Donald in tailor made conditions, Prasad took a 10-for using guile and deft movement. I recall his dismissal of Kristen with a peach of a leg cutter that moved just a hint, but enough to take the outside edge. nevertheless, the greatest, single most magical delivery bowled by an indian in recent history would be either Sreesanth to Kallis (the delivery that made kallis jump and attempt to fend off a delivery only to edge it to the keeper), or get this: mohanty to anwar in toronto in the second edition of the sahara cup's first game. the ball was bowled over the wicket to a left handed batsman, aimed across towards the off, expected to hit what would have been the third off stump... anwar pushed forward with a gentle push, missing the line all together, and since he was standing outside the crease, there was some distance past his bat to the wickets in which the ball moved into the batsman to rattle the offstump. the movement occurring incredulously after the batsman!

I think the discussion in this thread is about good quality quick bowling .... not just the best quality seam bowling till date. Srinath was perhaps the most hostile pacer in our history. But he never had any partners who could really hurry the batsmen ... except for his last couple of years when Nehra, Zaheer and Agarkar were all bowling briskly. Aaron, Umesh and Shami all have natural pace like Srinath. Even on their slower days they bowl briskly. This is in contrast to Zaheer, Nehra, Sreesanth , RP etc. who were lively when in rhythm but bowled a bit over medium pace on their slower days. Ishant too has natural bounce at lively pace. He can be fast at his best and bouncy fast medium on slower days. If these guys can be consistently reasonably accurate without slowing down much ... and are played together then we can have an exciting attack. The last match gave us a glimpse of that hope.
