Temujin Khaghan Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 atleast 5000 runs my arrangement 1. Gavaskar 2. Dravid 3. Sachin 4. VVS 5. Sehwag 6. Vengsarkar 7. Azharuddin 8. Vishwanath 9. Ganguly 10. Kapil Dev These are the 10 Indian batsmen who scored more than 5K in Test cricket. Arrange them according to their achievement in batsmanship (in your view) in the Test format (not allround-batsmanship).
kubrickian Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Sachin Gavaskar Dravid VVS Vishwanath Sehwag Vengsarkar Azharuddin Ganguly Kapil Dev
Lord Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Sachin Gavaskar Sehwag Dravid Laxman Vishwanath Vengsarkar Ganguly Kapil
Gollum Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Gavaskar Dravid Sachin Vishwanath Sehwag VVS Vengsarkar Kapil Azhar Ganguly
fineleg Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Does Ganguly get in top 10 Test batsmen? If so, shows how we lack super quality batsmen over the decade. Clearly, Ganguly is no world-class batsman, he is an alright Test batsman.
adi B Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 i consider the overall avg and away avg as the important parameters.here's my list sachin gavaskar dravid sehwag laxman vishwanath ganguly azhar hazare amarnath vengsarkar vengsarkar and azhar a bit low due to their poor away avg
adi B Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 oh wait minimum 5k runs? then hazare and amarnath are out
Temujin Khaghan Posted December 10, 2014 Author Posted December 10, 2014 Does Ganguly get in top 10 Test batsmen? If so' date=' shows how we lack super quality batsmen over the decade. Clearly, Ganguly is no world-class batsman, he is an alright Test batsman.[/quote'] if you take out the 5K min requirement, even one-eyed Pataudi, vijay manjrekar, hazare etc... are better than Ganguly. But a lot of us only know that the pre-Gavaskar batsmen were great but not how they compare with the post-Gavaskar batsmen. Thats why i kept that barrier.
Temujin Khaghan Posted December 10, 2014 Author Posted December 10, 2014 oh wait minimum 5k runs? then hazare and amarnath are out thats alright, if you have knowledge about how hazare compares with the others in the list. do you btw? or did you just name him based on his reputation?
sachin34357 Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 SM Gavaskar SR Tendulkar R Dravid V Sehwag VVS Laxman M Azharuddin DB Vengsarkar GR Viswanath SC Ganguly N Kapil Dev
sachin34357 Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 fun fact: there are only 10 indian batsman who have scored 5000 or more runs in test cricket when you exclude zim and bangla
express bowling Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Sachin / Gavaskar / Dravid Sehwag VVS Vishwanath Vengsarkar Ganguly Azhar Kapil -- I have kept Sachin, Dravid and Gavaskar as joint first because they have all been exceptional in certain important aspects. Sachin -- Sheer number of runs at high average, -- ability to play well overseas. -- first Indian batting super-great who was an amazing strokeplayer and hence very enjoyable to watch. Dravid -- Playing well under extreme pressure, -- playing well when the team needed him the most, -- playing well overseas. Gavaskar -- Batting so well without helmet against the WI quicks in WI. -- His hunger for runs
BeautifulGame Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Sachin Gavaskar Amarnath* Laxman Dravid Azhar Sehwag Vengsakar Ganguly Kapil Vishwanath Honestly I don't know much about Vishwanath apart from that he was a stylist bat. Also Amarnath should be in the top 3 batsmen we produced regardless of aggregate runs imo
express bowling Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Amarnath and Ravi Shastri are 2 guys who played the West Indian quicks fearlessly and scored under pressure.
Marut Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 sheer ability with the bat: (did not include players I have never seen bat) Sachin Dravid Gavaskar Viswanath Laxman Kapil Amarnath Sehwag Vengsarkar Ganguly
