Once he gets the confidence he will become very good. Pujara is probably the least talented out of our top 8 in this batting line up. He is more of a hard worker and should never try the shots like today. Even in SA he scored mostly off straight balls on the on side and left everything else, then made up for s/r against Tahir.

Can't expect the very domestic bat to succeed. As long as we keep away from selecting players based on odi records we will K Another clarification on this issue. I am not against picking the really good first class batters. I really want Pujara to succeed. My point is .... batsmen who are scoring really heavily in first class matches in India may have a higher chance of picking some bad habits ( or already have some bad habits ) with respect to playing well outside the subcontinent. They might need to give it some extra thought and work on them.

He loomed tentative, got bogged down, and was lucky to survive several deliveries since the moment he came in.
Texan Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 More than the 24 average this year, I am concerned about the huge disparity in his average at home and away. At home, he is a bully with a Test average of 75. Away, his batting turns out to be a whimper with an average of 29. Now, he has got quite a few chances to prove his mettle. I hope for the sake of Indian cricket it is not the case, but I have started feeling that Pujara is just a domestic bully and no good when taken out of his comfort zone.
GolGappe Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 Sad story. He has gone from team's backbone to 4th or 5th most dependable batsman after Kohli, Vijay, Rahane and others in the space of three series. Puts too much emphasis on saving his wicket instead of keeping the score board ticking.

I have noticed he has tried to be different on this tour. I even saw him trying to talk to Warner and sledge him, something I have not seen. To me he needs to go back to basics. Still a quality player. Just an ordinary year.

It was a brilliant slow ball but Pujara at his best would have defended it well, but here he kind of got his bat out early and sort of play a pre meditated defense and got bowled as the ball wasn't in theline he assumed. Top class bowling but Pujara at his best would have negotiated it.

Vijy Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Pujara is a classic FTB, as is Dhawan and Nohit. I thought Vijay was one too, but I am most happy to be proven wrong. Would be equally happy if one of the above trio also do the same.
