Cricket_Hacker Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 No pressure,old ball,bowlers tired,flat pitch,other batsman on 100+,and what does he do,plays a nothing airy-fairy shot.Got dropped,and guess what,next delivery top edged a ball that was swept off from the rough.For a player who made it into the team due to his temperament,his debut was worse than Rahane's,which was a real minefield

Austin 3:!6 Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 I like Rahul but we need to realize that do we need an opener batting at no.6. Test cricket has changed a lot and at no.6 you need a player who plays well against spin, bit aggressive and move the feet well. Not saying Rahul does not have all those but I think Raina is better suited for that job. Specially since all our upcoming tests are in India Raina can do wonders there. Also, our team is packed with Right hand batsman and throwing a lefty is not a bad decision.

Even the 4-5 balls that he played before the brainfart, he looked good, though too short to form any concrete opinion Some commentary from CI. 107.5 Lyon to Rahul, 1 run, comes forward and flicks the flighted delivery confidently past the short leg fielder for his first Test runs 108.5 Hazlewood to Rahul, no run, short of length ball, Rahul gets well forward as he defends the ball towards cover 109.2 Lyon to Rahul, no run, gets nicely forward to this over-the-wicket delivery, tapped back towards the bowler 109.3 Lyon to Rahul, no run, gets well inside the crease this time as Lyon drops it a touch short, defended towards short leg Each of his shots has some adjective of confidence mentioned... Again, too short to say anything, and the way he threw his wicket was pathetic, particularly given that he was dropped off the previous ball.. I was wondering if Kohli would tell him to calm down just after he was dropped, but sad to see a senior guy like Kohli telling him to go for the big shots... Easy to get carried away by such advice... Would surely give him more time to figure it out by himself
