Old guy Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Batted well today. Left the short balls well. Those that he defended were done with soft hands, except one that hit his gloves. Played a lovely pull shot. Defended well and played a couple of nice drives. Poked at a couple of deliveries early on but looked solid after 4 overs or so. its just nerves i guess ...i always thought he was very solid but many people have had horrid debuts and just see this thread by people after 1 match ..sigh thanks for reply everyone will watch how he does tomorrow .i have feeling he will get out to lyon again :giggle:

Soorma_Bhopali Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 I am sure that those two brain-fart shots in his first match were under team instructions to be aggressive and take the game to the opposition blah blah ..He tried to be someone not himself ..once he is comfortable with his game at test level and is confident of his place, he will be the classic test match opener.:hatsoff:

Even if some of their new debutantes are failing, they keep giving them chances. We usually don't (apart from Rohit) and are very quick to jump to assumptions about a batsman. Rahul is a good batsman and he averages near 50 in first class. We have to give him a chance to prove himself. If we gave Rohit so many chances, certainly we can provide Rahul with at least half as many? As for the dropped catches, you just can't put a guy with 1 test match under his belt in the slip cordon.

His feet would be on the ground. By staying on the ground you take care of height and direction. But by jumping you are more likely to put yourself in the path of bouncer if the ball starts coming back at you

That delivery was a rip shorter. He was lucky that he didnt get a glove.

He seemed to get in line really quick and middle the ball nicely against the fastest Maharashtra pacer Fallah, who was rather nippy. The only issue was that he needed to get it in the gap more often which I thought might come with more exposure. Hope he does well this innings.

He has to face far more quicker bowlers at test level.
