In home like conditions mostly .. He was on his way to become better but like I said did not sustain it and also his keeping at start was nothing special and I remember in his first few series he struggled as much as dhoni in England :winky:

ABDV - not regular keeper Sanga - on and off Macullum - does not keep Dhoni - Kept through his career - Boucher - Better keeper, lesser bat Prior - Good keeper probably had been better than Dhoni at it but had some poor troughs, better batsman. In ODI's, Dhoni is probably the best WK bat, ABDV when he keeps is better.

Seen purely from a batting POV, I would go with Flower in Tests and Sanga in ODIs.

Prior might have hit trough towards the end, but he had already done enough to be ahead of Dhoni. He played absolutely and for sometime he scored runs only when England was in trouble. And he made some meaningful runs.

We were never rescued in England. Dhoni tried more than others but extending a score of 100 all out to 150 is not significat. You are not even putting doubt in the mind of opposition with that kind of effort. Paucity of Dhoni's test batting achievement was pretty evident with the fact that we struggled to put together few test innings as highlight of Dhoni's test career. Other than Australia 200 and England 76 there was hardly anything. It remains a fact that Dhoni doesn't have a single 100 + score in any form of the cricket outside Indian sub-continent.

And how much did prior do ? Few good innings vs weak Indian side in subcontinent ? Only extended score against Pakistan same way dhoni did ..I liked prior but he is very overrated specially his keeping he played some great innings like vs New Zealand but those are his home like condition like subcontinent is to dhoni . Prior looked like a much better batsman but what he achieved in end was not that special as people here are making it to be he has very bad tours along with some good ones but was lucky to be part of 2011 English side which was most overrated in world .

I might be wrong but dhoni averaged around 50 at home which shows you he was not as bad at home but obviously looked fish out of water away Prior was more complete batsman no doubt about that but in the end what matters is what he achieved and he literally got destroyed vs good teams even at home . Also prior has 3 fifties in India ..people make it sound like he hit 100s here ..obviously since whole team was strong those innings lead to result but dhoni has done just as well as him in England ( played more games and got more fifties ) More than here dhoni I think people are overrating prior and I admit some innings he played like vs New Zealand for draw were not something dhoni could play but prior cannot play inning dhoni did vs Australia under pressure . Prior could have achieved lot more but he did not ..

Also prior averaged 22 in South Africa ..dhoni 28 Prior Did much better than dhoni in Australia 32 vs 19 ... All is am saying is difference is not as big people make it out to be and I hate using stats to prove point but his kind of gives you idea .

I was referring to regular non-Indian keepers - this excluded both ABDV and Dhoni. Otherwise, my list would be ABDV, Dhoni, Sanga and Gilly. Yep, I think Sanga was, and still is, a better ODI bat than Gilly. He's also a better Test batsman by far (but only after he gave up the gloves).

Well you picked 35 and they pick 13 lol , it still shows his ineptitude. We are talking about yuy who averages 50 in odis, show me one guy who has that high average in odi but is like tailender in tests. Bevan comes close.
