Mindreader Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 73 is ok but have u observed he was playing continuous dot balls to same region
Mindreader Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Eng were 66/5 do u think england is decent odi side?we lost 2 matches to crap side like england, even ireland>england
Cricketics Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 People are talking about dot balls and assuming so much stuff. Have you ever thought that he must have been asked to hold one end and stick around since we have been getting bowled out cheaply and middle order hasn't really been reliable, so they would have probably asked him to stay on the wicket, which he did and actually added runs too. Give the dude some credit. Onlly player who scored runs and people are hating on him.

Give the dude some credit. Onlly player who scored runs and people are hating on him. I guess you didn't watch the full match. He played really fugly shots out of the blue at several points of his knock. where he was luck enough not to find the fielder. We are only talking about the general approach and why he merely averages 30 in one dayers after close to 50 ODI games beause of that. His approach is fraught with risk. That is why Tuk TUk Boom Boom. He just plays 4 or 5 dot balls and builds pressure ton himself hen go after a few release shots. We are not doing a case by case study here. Use the last innings as reference if you want. Nobody questions his ability to survive and bat for long period. Dravid was never considered a great ODI player at the start. But he moulded himself into a decent one if not oustanding one. Just don't take isolated match performane and declare that people are witch hunting Rahane. Just put the bias away and check why he averages a mere 30 in one dayers in this era. That is poor for an Indian player. Look at the record of Indian batsmen in the matches that Rahane played. He has the poorest average with poor strike rate. http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=2;filter=advanced;orderby=runs;player_involve=51096;team=6;template=results;type=batting

Personally, we have tried everything in recent history and Rahane, even though not our best bat, is still better than most. It's too late to try someone new, so why bother worrying about that aspect. Franky, I would play Rahane over Rayudu. Kohli needs to fire big time. You see how poor we have gotten since his failures. Dhoni should bat up before Raina. Grounds are big in Australia, we can't just expect him to swing hard in last 6-7 overs and produce a 70 run p'ship that time. He has to come up and settle in. If he gets opportunity, should come in before Raina in 30th over.
veer Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 I thought his inning was bit ugly too. He was extra defensive at times and then played some rash shots. He is much better player than what he displayed. The way he was playing Ali was disappointing.. Too many dot balls.. Plus, when there was lose ball he didn't capitalise it... Few balls were on leg which he easily could have tucked for four... He was missing that fluent middle of the bat stroke. May be a cluttered mind but gotta get him back in that zone..
SRT100 Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 BRILLIANT INNINGS BY RAHANE YESTERDAY You dont understand nor follow ODI cricket if you think Rahane played badly in Perth. This is not India where you need 350 runs to feel safe batting first.

veer Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 ^^To be clear, Fluency, not strike rate, is in question
fineleg Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 In Tests in Australia - he had good Strike rate and fluency because he was confident and middling the ball and timing it well. In ODIs he gets into "unsure mode". He exhibits confidence in one format (Tests), and unsure in another format (ODI). The confidence (or lack of it) makes a difference. Raina/Yuvi used to be the reverse. When they wear color jersey for ODI they will be confident. When white color in Tests, they will jump around the crease.

Because in tests, you can take time to settle in, which he did, also more gaps to pierce the outfield.
veer Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Because in tests' date=' you can take time to settle in, which he did, also more gaps to pierce the outfield.[/quote'] True... However, rahane played thru 30+ overs. After 10 overs, field was spread out. Hacung said all these, I like Rahane. He is a hard working player and will learn from the game fast.
fineleg Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Actually in this recent Test series, didnt Rahane actually get going fairly early in his innings ? (instead of taking a long time to settle down like a Dravid, and then unleash the shots)?
Cricket_Hacker Posted February 23, 2015 Author Posted February 23, 2015 no tuk tuk boom boom against Saffers.Pleasant innings, effortlessy striking @125
TNAmarkFrmIndia Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 If Rahane would be able to play this way more consistently (when the situation demands it) he could be a vital cog in our batting line up. I think one of the reasons he was backed was because of his brilliant fielding. Yes, he is also a run machine, but he just couldn't deliver the goods when it came to ODI cricket. Strange too, since he actually does pretty well in the IPL. He need to get his 50 over game sorted. I guess it's still early to say if this is one of those rare innings or he has truly developed into a better one day player.

coffee_rules Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 He did have a lot of play and miss though for real fast deliveries. he hit a lot of boundaries, but he did have problems connecting ..he would have overs like . 4 . . 4 .

He is good at putting away bad balls. But length balls he has not still mastered at putting them away as he is still a conventional batsman. Typically length balls disappear in one dayers against sloggers. But he is not a slogger. That is why he missed a few.
