How many spinners can get 100 wickets in their first 15 home tests?? On tailor-made pitches where you are getting results in most matches, this isnt impossible. We have seen a lot of rank turners in last 4 years in India after NZ tour in 2010 when Bhajji had scored 2 100s. Spinners are doing bulk of the bowling. So, it is not far fetched that a spinner pick 5-6 wickets per match Like Steyn has done in SA in seamer friendly conditions though Steyn also has done well at most places in the world. I would say the kind of wickets we have prepared in last 4 years, Ashwin averages very high for that. Look at Jaddu, he is averaging around 19.85 at home in 5 home tests with 27 wickets. If Jaddu keeps playing home matches, he will reach 100 wickets pretty soon too.

He did say he got into all technical problems in that tournament. Bring England now (the old side) and I am sure he won't average 50 against them. :giggle: Ashwin at home Vs NZ - 13 Avg with 29.7 SR Vs Wi - 21 Avg with 42 SR Vs Aus - 20.10 with 49 SR Vs England - 52.4 with 101 SR Ashwin overall SR at home is 51. Jaddu's overall SR at home is 58.5. Jaddu is more economical so when he gets the wickets, his averages are better than Ash. Against Aus, both had almost similar SR (48,49) but Ashwin averaged 20 and Jaddu 17 for precisely the same reason. With more sample size, we will know how who stands where.

adi B Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 ashwin is a mediocre odi bowler whose avg and strike rate are pretty average especially considering at one time in 2012 he used to avg 28 odd in odis,has regressed quite a lot but comparing him with jadeja in tests is not good.ashwin is a classical off spinner and has more variations and potency to become a good spin bowler for india in the next 4-5 years.i think he'll succeed in tests and is a much better option than jadeja

He explained during the break how the two new balls have that shinier side which allows him to flight it better away from the right handers. That's really good adaptation and skill :hatsoff:

Will get smashed. :winky: That's what the narrative is. Seriously though, very good performance. I am shocked to see how did he become this good. But feel he should not always loop the ball in the death overs or power plays (35-40). Should use that arm ball more often in death.

Now he is becoming more experienced, hence the results. All spin bowlers from the SC typically get smashed during their first few years. Good ODI captains like Dhoni know this very well. Unless good spinners are give enough opportunities to bowl outside SC they will never learn. Ashwin is beginning to gain experience bowling outside home - he will only improve from here.
