"Imagine if Varun Aaron was here": Shoaib Akhtar

"Imagine if Varun Aaron was here" was the first sentence of Shoaib Akthar today during the innings break analysis. Akhtar said a fast bowler needs confidence and experience and like Umesh and Shami, even Varun Aaron would have got into good rhythm and line & length by now. Even during commentary Akhtar mentioned Varun more than 10 times and said he should have been in the team. Quite Baffling to see that selectors have ignored one of the fastest bowler in the world completely and even for backup they have kept Dhaval kulkarni and i am quite sure Dhoni will play even a 70% fit Shami or Bhuvi rather than replacing them by Dhaval and infact it was even in the news that Dhoni requested Varun Aaron and Murli Vijay for the world cup squad. Fun fact: Today Shami said during post match interview that Shoaib Akhtar tips helped him in increasing his speed by fine-tuning his run-up, i am quite sure Varun would have reached 155+ Km/Hr in Australia after getting some confidence and tips, instead his next outing will now be in "Bangalore" the graveyard of fast bowlers which will further shatter his confidence.

Its a no brainer really Aaron >>Kulkarni in these conditions. Whether he's good enough to make it in the playing 11 is some what debatable. But its stupid to not even have him in the squad.

Would have been good to have him in the squad as a backup at least. Now, if Dhawal would get injured.. I mean not a serious injury but some small, convenient injury.

Aaron will play surely after WC.Meanwhile he can work on his economy rate and control in ODIs. Even Umesh was dropped from ODI team and he rectified his problems to come back stronger.

Aaron would have been ace on this pitch I dont think Dhawal needs to get injured as he is part of "management" One of the squad members read Axar Binny or Bhuvi needs to get injured

It wouldn't hurt to being him in but this guy is a true spray gun murugan and i really dont want that right now especially since all 3 guys are bowling beautifully with control.

I have been a big supporter of Aaron and we need to definitely pick him in the future and give him the confidence of playing international cricket. But, after his first few ODIs, he has been disappointing. Even in Tests, His economy rate is almost 5, which is ridiculous. The bowlers so far have been successful not because they have bowled fast, but they have been accurate. That is of pivotal importance while playing on such surfaces. They have also managed to surprise batsmen with the odd short ball and batsmen have fallen trying to break the shackles. Varun Aaron also needs a bit of work on trying to get swing. Just look at Umesh Yadav. When he was new to international cricket, he hardly swung the ball. But now, he does and can be fairly accurate (on a good day). I haven't seen Varun swing the ball much at all.

Yadav-Shami-Aaron would've made a potent and very fast attack
Nope. Mohit has been the superglue for our attack with his accuracy and discipline.

bunch of ungrateful twits. mohit has been bowling well but you guys want aaron as 3rd bowler. aaron would have just leaked runs
Nobody is being ungrateful here, infact you are the only one here who looks like a twit, everyone here is asking for Aaron to be in the world cup squad, this would give Dhoni options, already Bhuvi is injured and Shami also had a minor injury but recovered, this brings us very close to a precarious situation of getting Dhawal Kulkarni bowling in knock outs and getting blasted all-over.

People are missing the point that Dhawal kulkarni is NOT part of the actual WC squad. He is only there in case Bhuvi gets ruled out and has to be replaced in the squad. And as such, he is a like-for-like replacement. If Umesh Yadav was on the fitness bubble instead of Bhuvi, it is likely that Varun Aaron might have been the 'extra' unofficial squad member. And as many have pointed out on this thread already, Aaron still needs to make progress before he can be trusted in a crunch ODI tournament. Sure, it would have been great if we had the luxury of carrying him in the squad and giving him a game against the minnows. But with a 15-only squad, we don't have that extra spot. Selectors get a lot of flak, and deservedly so, often. But in this case, its hard to argue with having one extra spinner, one extra batsman who can keep, one seam-up allrounder and an extra pacer on the bench. If it was 16/17, I'm sure Aaron would have been there.

Shoaib jizzes over anything fast regardless of quality just like himself routinely getting smashed all over the park. In his world aaron > McGrath. Aaron isn't here because his control sucked despite his speed. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

Forget Shoiab, even Mcgrath himself was baffled that Aaron wasnt chosen in the squad. Aaron had outclassed our bowlers in the warmups prior to tests. Even in the 2 tests that he played, he created the most chances. Yes he was expensive but so were the other bowlers except Ishant. Mcgrath was right in pointing out the 4/5 catches were dropped of his bowling. And barring Perth these bowlers havent really swung the ball. Most wickets were of well directed short deliveries and back of the length stuff. When it comes to that line of attack, Aaron's the best in the business. Was the only one who looked like taking wickets by bowling short during the 2 tests that he played. Got Shaun Marsh and Hadding in trouble of those deliveries. And whether he has to be included in the playing 11 is a different topic. The selectors chose Kulkarni as back up even before the fitness concerns of BK. And this is absolutely discouraging for him. Wont be surprised if the selectors ignore him even after WC. Other teams have included bowlers like Cummins and Milne even when they had access to supposedly more accurate bowlers. They arent foolish to do that.
