Dhoni esque captaincy by Devilliers cost them the game

I know I will be hated for saying this. Why did he bowl part timer (himself) in the 40 th over? Imran Tahir bowled a tight 13th over and got a wicket, but Devilliers took him off from the attack from the next over. Not only this match, but throughout the tournament, his choice of bowlers reminded me of Dhoni. The only reason why Dhoni seems successful in this tournament because he is using 5 regular bowlers. Although Raina bowls a few, Dhoni some how got away with it. I remember Raina bowling in the 13th over against Pakistan, I was thinking, here we go again. Lol. Fortunately, he took him off from the bowling attack and continued with the regular bowlers. The no. 1 reason why we are successful in this tournament so far is because of 5 regular bowlers. Devilliers should have gone with 5 regular bowlers yesterday. Terrible captaincy. Absolutely reminded me of good old Dhoni.

He should have bowled spin for mccullum. Bangbros tried it and it worked. He isnt that strong against spin. you shouldn't just give pace for this guy.Easy 50 and movement vested there. Their was no pressure after that.

Indian parttimers lke Raina have bowled enough by now to be used for more than 5 overs. This is where they missed the trick. Also, AB should have played Abbott ahead of Philander since Abott was already bowling well in the tournament after he replaced the injured Philander earlier in the tournament. Also removing Tahir after he had bowled maiden over was bad move. Ross Taylor went on to make 30 odd and was involved in p'ship with Guptil and and Eliott. Even though he scored 30, but he might have just fallen to Tahir had Tahir not been removed. Saf did make lot of mistakes.

Baz would have taken Abbott to cleaners as well. When he is in the zone not many pacers can stop him except may be left arm inswinging bowlers. Tahir could have been tried. Also after Baz was out they should have persisted with Tahir for 5 overs like Baz did with Boult.

He did. And McCullum got out the very next over because of it. There was nothing AB could have done. They were beaten by a better all round team, with a better composition.

He didn't got away with it many times in the past. Anyone remember Shoaib Malik's century in the 2009-10 champions trophy? Virat kohli bowling dollys after dollys and Shoaib Malik kept smashing him for runs. What about the world cup final when Virat kohli was asked to bowl and everyone was looking at each other wondering what's happening when he got smashed by jaya. What about the 1st t 20 match we played against Pakistan at home in 2012? Do you guys remember after bhuvi got the important wickets, Dhoni got Yuvi bowling and Shoaib Malik smashed him for sixers to release all the pressure ? I can go on, keep giving examples, lol. Lets leave it there.

You are right that ABDV and SA Got too negative. Taking Tahir out after 1 over when he precipitated the wickets was ridiculously defensive. Taking Morkel out after taking wickets was silly. Calling it Dhoni like is beyond stupid. Even when Dhoni brings in part timers he tries to take wickets with them by placing reasonably aggressive fields which encourage batsmen to take risks. It's quite incredible how many wickets under Dhoni's captaincy have been taken by part-timers. This isn't what AB did. Their part timers were happily giving the single away. Dhoni may be the greatest current ODI captain and easily top 5 in ODIs all time. Comparing him to ABDV, who is at best an ordinary captain is ridiculous.

When did you see Dhoni setting aggressive field setting for Part time bowlers?

After that explosive start by Mac, SA should have tried to bowl out the Kiwis. Baz had given them such a good start that SA could not hope to win by containing the runs. AB tactics was poor after the fall of two quick wickets. Bringing in Duminy to bowl took away the pressure and enabled NZ to maintain healthy runrate throughout the game.

He brought down the RRR rapidly in a matter of 5 overs.

Virat Kohli bowled a grand total of 1 over and he got "smashed" by 6 runs. Meanwhile, Sreesanth bowled 8 overs and went for 52 - Zaheer went for 60 in 10 eventually. You might have to look into the dictionary for what "smashed" means. Let me help you - Kulasakera was smashed by India in the same final. His figures read 8.2-0-64-0 in the end, might help.
