Yeah, Imran and Wasim get a lot of notoreity for their pace when they were slower....way slower even at their peak than Yadav and Aaron. They bowled around 145kph at best in their peak, its just that when the tampered ball reverse swings at that pace it seems much faster than it is. Here's an example from low 140k bowler Kasprowicz reverse swinging the ball. He looks as fast as Lee: _cJTAhkTqGA

Vishy was renowned for pressure/impact knocks, not so much for fast bowling. He wasn't as good as Gavaskar or Amarnath against fast bowling. I would rank them this way. Sachin > Gavaskar > Dravid > Amarnath > Vishy > VVS Rated Sachin ahead of Gavaskar/Dravid because Sachin could destroy genuine pace attacks while Gavaskar and Dravid tended to accumulate runs. Amarnath was exceptionally good against pace on occasions, but he lacked the consistency to match Dravid. (For instance Amarnath once aggregated one run in six innings in a home test series versus the WI quicks, something Dravid would never do)
Gollum Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Andy Roberts and D K Lillee, the 2 of the most feared, nasty mean fast bowlers of all time rated Vishy above Gavaskar and that means a lot to me. And Dravid as I said, great player against swing but against Donald, Lee, Ambrose, Bond etc I always saw him struggle.

He was very tall though and got steep bounce. I have never seen Wasim bowl a single delivery over 145 k . Imran's fastest delivery in a much publicized speed contest in the 1970s was 139 k.

Rahane is surely the best. However ...as Kohli has scored in the seaming/ swinging conditions of South Africa and NZ....his failure in England maybe due to a bad patch. I will watch Kohli's next tour of England before forming a definitive opinion on this issue ( Kohli's ability to play in seaming and swinging conditions. )

TBF....Those pitches were pretty flat but may be an out and out patta like S.C and also they had a gun bowling attack so credit where due :hatsoff:...I am a big fan of Kohli and yes he is good on bouncy pitches but not so much in swinging conditions. the earlier generation it should be the other way round...likes of Vengsarker and even Azhar etc used to do well in Eng and Nzl but struggle on bouncy pitches.

He was better against Swing....His theory was leave leave leave,pick the odd lose one...milk the weaker bowlers....leave ...leave...leave.. Not saying it was a bad strategy,you need to have a great cricketing accumen,patience and concentration to pull that off. He wasn't that good against raw pace and bounce...for eg his performance in Aus and South Africa bar 1 odd series
