Thats pretty laughable. With Sehwag, its always been a matter of form and confidence. If he has form or confidence, he'd bash anyone out of the park, if he doesn't he will give slip and 3rd man catching practice. Sehwag is not your 'performs at 80% of FC level at international level' type that defines the vast majority (IE, most batsmen have better FC stats than Test stats because FC is easier). He is not the type to score a mountain of runs against an opposition in a particular condition and then disappear in another condition the next day. He is simply a blow hot/blow cold type of a player and if he can score 45 average in domestic season, he can average 45 in tests too currently. He has shown that he can be a competent #3, a position India is currently lacking in. I've never been sold on Pujara's fitness to last a whole series and Sehwag is a good able backup for the next couple of years, particularly because he can be a sheer wrecking ball in home conditions.

IPL is the best T20 tournament in the world, watched by millions on TV and tens of thousands of people in stands with best International players playing. So, IPL is a good parameter for T20 international selections and specially considering the next year T20 world cup is in India.

I am one of the biggest Sehwag fans but lets be real guys, he has way past it. His eye sight, fitness, catching, ground fielding and ofcourse batting have gone down drastically. So there is no question of bringing back 36 year old Sehwag now. Gambhir can be looked at in home games. He is still India's best batsman against spinners and a master in strike rotation in the middle overs.

He also would've averaged over 40 in England if he hadn't been rushed back to the side unfit after his shoulder injury for the last two tests in 2011. Also averages 50+ in West Indies.
