Some interesting agreements that will signed are: 1. Bangladeshis won't require visa to travel to India 2. Introduce Kolkata-Dhaka-Agartala and Dhaka-Shillong- Guwahati bus services 3. Integration of India and Bangladesh's power grid where one can can export and import electricity to each other 4. Allowing Bangladeshi vehicles to travel to India and then to Bhutan and Nepal and thereby allowing the Bangladeshi ports of Chittagong and Mongla to service the international trade of Nepal, Bhutan and 7 NE states of India. Vise versa India vehicles will also be allowed from the west to travel to the 7 NE states thus reducing travel time. 5. India will provide a total of $ 3 billion soft term loans to Bangladesh to improve the road, rail and electricity grid integration projects on the Bangladesh side. With the investment India is going to make on its side it will be a big investment to connect India and Bangladesh. A few years back the Awami League government was fearful of signing these agreements as a certain section of Bangladeshi people is against any integration with India. But it's good for Bangladesh economically as it is now going to be the centre of trade and connectivity for the neglected seven north eastern states of India, West Bengal, Nepal and Bhutan. Also surprising is that BJP has gone for these agreements as traditionally Congress is thought to be the party which has a soft corner for Bangladesh and especially Awami League. But for the time being Indians will still have to take visa to travel to Bangladesh but I guess after this good gesture by Modi, Bangladesh will soon follow suit and allow Indians to travel to Bangladesh on on-arrival visa too. India already does it for many countries. The devil will be in fine print on type of visa - work/visit,etc. Really doubt if work visa will be included in this. Ironhide Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 It is Visa on arrival by Air travel not "visa-free" travel. Even that is not agreed, we may or may not sign Visa on arrival. The most important thing is Border agreement, we will seal up the borders just like India-Pakistan border to avoid illegal migration. This is the major point and Modi had promised he would seal up Bangladesh border during elections, Bangladeshi's are welcome but only with legal Visa.

At some point, the "Berlin Wall(s)" needs to fall .... No one from the outside is going to help the subcon. The countries must rise up to take on the challenges themselves and by cooperating with each other Ind should ignore countries such as Pak which seek to create trouble and focus on those that would want to move positively ahead with Ind. If Ind does not take leadership now when will it?
