The Realist Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Joe Root is coming to the party for Eng in all formats – averaging 54 in tests, 40 in ODIs and 37 in T20s – all at the age of 24. While on the other hand you have Nohit who debuted in 2007 and has shown little consistency in any format – averages 41 in tests, 39 in ODIs and 30 in T20s. Looks like Root is actually delivering on his promise while an ageing Nohit it seems will always be a pretender despite being given endless rope.

They've performed very similarly over the years in LOIs, so because of Rohit's ability to play large innings, he is a little ahead for me.

Obviously in ODIs Virat is way ahead of Root but in tests i think Root is better than Virat as he can play well in all conditions. Virat still has to prove he can play well in England. Rohit's test career is still stunted and he is showing no signs of improvement there. His ODI form has improved a lot though.

Kohli is too good of a batsman to not improve his average there.

But ROHIT right now will be in the current world odi xi and t20 world X1 for most experts where as joe root is finding his feet in the format. Also let rohit play some home tests and then judge. Root is good very good but in the last 12 months the much improved rohit especially in the loi format is in a different league altogether. Also no surprises the usual suspects have jumped on the opportunity to run down one of our best Loi players at present. Let root score 2 150s leave alone 2 200s or even easier an innings with 10+ 6s and we will revisit this thread.
