The registered Madrasas not teaching primary subjects will be classified by the state government as “non-schools†and children studying in them will be considered “out of school†students. The move has raised the hackles of Muslim leaders as well as the opposition parties in the state. “Madrasas are giving students education on religion and not giving them formal education. Our Constitution says every child has the right to take formal education, which madrasas do not provide,†State Minorities Affairs Minister Eknath Khadse said. “If a Hindu or Christian child wants to study in a Madrasa, they will not be allowed to study there. Thus, Madrasa is not a school but a source of religious education. Thus we have asked them to teach students other subjects as well. Otherwise these Madrasas will be considered as non- schools,†Khadse said. He said the Principal Secretary of Minority Affairs department Jayshree Mukherjee has written a letter to Principal Secretary of School Education and Sports Nand Kumar in this regard. Khadse said the School Education department has planned a survey of students that are not taking formal education on July 4. “Students who are studying in Madrasas that do not provide formal education will be treated as out of school students. Our only aim behind doing this is to ensure that every child of the minority community gets a chance to learn and come into the mainstream, get good paying jobs and have a prosperous future,†Khadse said. The minister said that out of a total 1,890 registered Madrasas in the state, 550 have agreed to teach the four subjects to students. “We are even ready to pay Madrasas for giving students formal education and are ready to provide them teaching staff as well,†Khadse said. Asaduddin Owaisi, who is the President of AIMIM, questioned the rationale behind the government decision, and asked whether students being imparted Vedic studies will also be considered out-of-school children. “There are many Madrasas that are teaching Maths, English and Science. Many Madarasa students have gone ahead and cracked civil service examâ€, he said. Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind General Secretary Maulana Mahmood Madani said that whatever happened is “unacceptableâ€. Calling the move unconstitutional, Congress spokesperson Sanjay Nirupam said, “No child should be discriminated along religious lines. But suspect following beef ban & why in Ramzan month He wants government to work as per religious calendars.

And then you will see such people complain about the "Internet Right Wing".

It is the need of the hour that kids of this community get education in Science, Maths along with religious subjects that are being presently taught. It will be good for the nation. With the new knowledge they can use technology better wherever possible. They will understand things better and can relate to the new advancement of the modern world.
The Outsider Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 This is fundamentally a good move, but in the hands of RSS jaahils this is a dangerous weapon. A lot of madarssas even today teach all these subjects and the minister has said that those who don't will be supplied with teachers who can teach these subjects. Where will the government find these teachers from when they are unable to staff existing government schools adequately? They will in all likelihood use their incompetence to de- recognize these madarssas.

There are 100000 students in these madarsa's in Maharashtra which were being recognized by govt until. How these students are rehabilitated by Govt in mainstream schools are to be seen. Also how govt would ensure that these schools get Also this is not something that BJP govt has initiated on his own. Previous Cong govt had started Madarsaa modernization scheme under which they were offering financial aids to Madarsaa's under condition of Madarsaaz teaching basic subjects. They were to be denied financial aid if they are not teaching science and math. This move is kind of logical extension of that thought process.

Why don't you address my question about where will the government find teachers from to teach these subjects in madarssas when existing government schools have a shortage of teachers before indulging in fanciful rhetoric?

Will Madrassas accept non-muslims as teachers? May be govt can ask the engineering students to volunteer for some community work just like how Doctors are supposed to do social service in their final year.

BeautifulGame Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Should be extended to all over India .Frankly it would be better if they just derecognize all Madrasas even if they teach Maths and Science No school should be allowed to teach religion to kids .Or run religion exclusive schools . Only thing wrong is the timing .Should have done earlier like in April or May.Most schools are open for a month now so transferring the students to other schools will be tough on the students
