First class success rarely directly translates to a lot of success on the international scene. Take Lehmann for example. That being said he was definitely a brilliant all-rounder and it is very unfortunate that he didn't get to play more international cricket. Although he may not have surely been more successful than the other 4 all-rounders of his time, he probably would be considered in the same class. RIP

And he was successful in Kerry Packer series as well, which best players of those era describe as hardest cricket they ever played. He won three unofficial allrounder competitions beating all Botham, Hadlee, Kapil and Imran. He was definitely a world class player, doesn't matter if he haven't played international cricket. Batting wise, he was better than all 4 great allrounders. And only Imran and Hadlee were better bowlers than him. Don't think anyone who have seen him would doubt that.

gazza Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Unfortunate the world didn't see more of his cricket, certainly would have been considered a great all rounder of the 80s, Procter would've been to. But from what I've seen, read and heard, Clive was probably a better bat than the main 4 and as far as bowling he was quality as well, certainly no worse than any of the others, maybe slightly better than kapil and more consistent than botham which possibly would mean he would have ranked around 3rd after hadlee and imran with the ball.
