Raghav_12
@G_B , Our police lacks basic etiquette and one encounter with them changes complete attitude towards policing. System is fraught with corruption but I wouldnt complain in this case as they were doing raids. What seems to have happened here is standard behavior. I would resist from deriding them as they seem to have good intentions. lol.. Good intentions of teaching morals to adult couples. Not much expected when you elect hooligans to run your govts. Desi Cartman
Ok so they decided to arrest so many people and check documents, call mummy papa, accuse them, shame them and then fine them but why couldn't they do the same for the hotel owners and management? adi B
Agree with gb,its pretty easy to blame one side only without knowing the ground reality However the method that the police used was uncalled for

As I mentioned before, I have spent a lot of time in that area and know what happens there and how residents are frustrated. In this case it appears to be the same case hence the locals are giving reasons. I am not saying either of them took the right approach. What it shows is that police needs to be forced to take any action and when they are forced, it seems like they dont know how to get a warrant and arrest the right people. Posters here have complete inability to discuss one single topic properly without dragging politics and such inane statements which destroys any decent debate It is lazy, easy to make such statements, you don't even have to read any article properly or mull on the actual issues. Instead just circlejerk about the parties you believe in
Anitha
Actually in India identities are indeed hard to verify. Forgeries especially are a problem. I was actually picked up by the police one on my last visit to India in Mumbai. Me and my cousin and his friends had gone to see the NaMo rally at BKC. It was around 1-2am due to traffic we were late returning home. Apart from the driver all of us had drunk a few beers. Nobody was drunk. They took us to the police station cause apparently some gang of youths had been spotted putting up posters (ironically of NaMO) illegally on government property or so they said. They called my cousins mother to vouch for us. She vouched for us provided her address etc and came down there. I even had my British drivers licence on me in my wallet. They would not accept it. Mumbai as a city has been hit multiple times. If you wander off at night at say 4am even if you dont do anything wrong many times the police will pick you up and take you in and keep you there for a few hours. Unfortunately prostitution is a grey line. Police usually dont try to interfere in that business many are there just to make a living. The problem is drugs and the prostitution trade has been getting integrated into the city. But vouching will remain an integral part of how the mumbai police conducts itself. They do not fully trust identities. Post 2008 the police have become a lot more draconian. If these kids were local then they should have known that. Its not just moral policing, (supposedly) they have become hardline on eve teasing with a lot more female constables. My cousin was telling me that now a days even teenagers cant travel with their mothers or sisters in the ladies only compartments. Its all strictly enforced by the police. It is surprising to the extent you go ALWAYS to defend such things. I have seen in many threads, whether it is about rapes or crime or this, you will always try to blame third party things. Here again instead of admitting that what you stated is a big, big, problem, you are again claiming that kids should know and adjust to that. Previously you claimed women should avoid going at night. Your whole attitude seems to be if something is rotten everyone should keep on adjusting to it instead of protesting against it. Draconian police doesn't solve any problems and it is a blot of democracy. By saying people should adjust to it, you are part of the problem. beetle
Trust the police to act like this. Instead of catching the hotel owners and closing the hotels, they catch the people in the hotel. It is like shooing off flies but not cleaning the pile of filth. But why should the police act any other way ? They get their cut from the hotel owners and they get money out of catching people usng these hotels. this is called "AAm ke Aam,guthliyon ke dam"

ravishingravi
We need to focus on regulation. Anytime you rent a hotel room, they ask about the marital status or relationship. In most cases, it is not rented out to unmariied couples. So, are hotels guilty of making moral judgement ?
