express bowling Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 To be fair to Ishant, starting from the last NZ tour he has taken 43 wickets from 11 tests ( before the start of this test ) at an average of 33. Not bad by Indian standards.

First Ishant isn't a flat track bowler .He is good very good when there is something in the pitch for the bowlers. He hasn't let let us down much in those conditions tbh.But pretty much useless when the conditions are flat like in India Aus etc . But the problem our other seam bowlers are also (Maybe Shami apart to some extent) are all proved close to useless in the flat wickets .So the team is forced is forced to play Ishant because atleast he gives control even if he non -threatening with regards to wickets . In an ideal scenario he would have been a great support bowler I.e. 3rd seamer to play when conditions are helpful and at best use as workhouse in other conditions. He irritates us fans because he is the best we have and that's not his fault .Its not like other bowlers haven't been given regular chances but almost all of them have fallen off either because of not enough or not able to be fit regularly Ultimately the bigger issue is with our domestic system that can't produce fast bowlers better than Ishant

Bowlers should try to find reverse in such conditions like Steyn does which makes him successful in almost all conditions.

He's got this mental block regarding that spell being his bowling perfection and he cannot repeat it again. I remember even Mitchell Johnson had the same problem during his worst form (2009-2012), until he took a break from international cricket and trained under a retired army commander to regain his self belief and physical strength. Ishant's problems are more mental which only he can solve it, no amount of practice games or county cricket can.
express bowling Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 Ishant's accuracy and pace have improved. His seam position is better and he is bowling good bouncers. If he can stick to this, he can be a good stock pacer for us. Umesh and Shami need to step up and grab the strike bowler's role because both have the knack of taking wickets when bowling decently and both have the pace+ movement combo. They can play alternately based on form and fitness. Aaron can be the shock and awe quick in overseas tests when we play 3 quicks.
