Here is the problem with Rahane in general,He will play a brilliant knock and may be even at a good S/R but he is way too inconsistent....I mean he has scored a 100 in Nzl,in S.A and Eng.....Has 2 100's in the last 2 ODI series but he still averages 30 and 39 in ODI's and tests. His string of bad to avergae knocks will suddenly be overshadowed by a terrific innings. The deal with Rohit,Kohli,Raina or even Dhawan is that give them a flat track and they will make it count 9/10 times,at times even put the game beyond the oppnents reach...can's say the same about Rahane at this Point of time......So he is inconsistent. ALso there will be a lot of Minnow matches and Flat pitches in the World cup,they want be grassy pitches or super quick bouncy pitches like people are expecting....We have to play to our strength which is batting and be absolutely ruthless. Rahane is not in the mould of that typical Indian" FTB" who will absolutely destroy attacks on easy tracks and we need a lot of those in the WC...Sponsors are not idiots,they will make batting friendly tracks if they wnat to maximise profits

Before we go on ethane bashing. Rahane played very less Odis compared to rohit. Played very well in England Odis on his first tour. Let him play more before we decide who is better.
Rahane currently doesn't have too many obvious weaknesses in his game,so why is he averaging less? Mentally he seems strong as he scored in some tough conditions in some tough situations,so why is he still averaging on the lower side? The answer is He needs to be a ruthless FTB and I say that as a good thing,Nothing wrong in it if you want to have a legendary career....SO far he has not been able to do that. And in LOI's be it ODI or T20,pitches will be flat be it Aus or South Africa and you need guys who can just take the game away in LOI's. So Conclusion Rahane might be better off playing tests.

Even rohit started scoring after lot of matches. Rahane needs more matches before we discard him from Odis. The only thing that works against him in Odis is scoring rate. He needs to pace his innings better he will learn it over time. Whoever is in the opener position needs to know this well also Rahane doesn't has big shots like rohit so he needs learn how he can pace better with boundaries and twos.

His first tour to England was in 2011 and he averaged 31 in that series.

Even there he good a big score in one of the innings IIRC...Followed by mediocre scores...pretty much sums up how his career has progressed since then. I will still say he is our new era Laxman,Might have a bad patch but will play the knock that will make everyone stand up and applaud at the same time making up the average for the string of average scores.

Hall mark of someone who has no idea about how to pLay test cricket- last few overs has defended about 3-4 freebies (for the sake of defending). Then he'll get out whilst trying to play a ball he should have left.

ideally. Shikhar and Rahane should open. Rohit has to move to no 4. Shikhar, Rahane , Virat, Rohit, Raina, Dhoni, All rounder , 3 pacers and 1 spinner is how it should be We have Rayudu who can bat anywhere from 3 to 6 and Robin ( also back up keeper) who can open
rahane said NO to opening, for all formats.

Again a logic which is flawed. Rahane and rohit are different types of players. Rahane lacks with skills, rohit scores here. And besides, rahane may be consistent right now, but once he gets sorted out, his scores will be low.
