Who are the promising ones?

For now - Amit Mishra is a well deserved pick for Indian team. But who are the other promising ones?

Karn Sharma - is he the best for Test squad (since selectors picked him!? Is he really #1 in domestics??)

Sarabjit Ladda - is he good? Ladda action nice, rip nice, but poor stats?

Yuzvendra Chawal - ODI only? or T20 only?

Bubbly Lovely Piyush Chawla :haha:

Who else? Who are you looking at for the future promising leggies (yep. Kuldeep Yadav in 'chinaman' category)

Sarabjit Ladda was looking good on a greentop. He was getting sharp turn with his leg spin. bowling good googlies and getting a lot of zip and bounce off the deck. He has potential but is already 29 and not in contention yet for the national side.

Karn Sharma does not get consistent turn. Looks very average. His FC stats are very very poor. Just 77 wickets from 42 matches. I don't know how he gets that many chances.

Karanveer Singh looked like a classical leg spinner in the IPL but has not played much FC. He was getting good turn and bounce on most surfaces.

Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav has a lot of potential. He gets good turn and is very young. Has a wrong-un too.

We should try to find a new wrist spinner who gets a lot of turn, zip and bounce off the deck. Has a wrong-un and flipper too. Such bowlers often become " all-wicket bowlers " and can take wickets outside the subcontinent too.

Warne, Muralidharan and Kumble, the 3 highest wicket takers ( by a large margin ) in the history of test cricket, have all been wrist spinners. Stuart McGill, who could have reached those levels too if not for Warne blocking a spot, was a wrist spinner too. We should desperately search for a good one.,

Kohli has an interest in pacers with pace and spinners with spin. This is a big plus. He is promoting Mishraji , who is bowling well nowadays and getting turn and bounce.

I think Sarabjit Ladda even if 29 - should not be ruled out. 29 is ok for a spinner (if he is good, that should be the criteria, how well they bowl). But question is how is Ladda doing currently?

dont need leggy. Jaddu is good averaging 23. Ashwin is an attacking spinner, you need someone like Jaddu who can hold one end up and keep batsmen under pressure.

We are covered in the off spin (Ash) and left arm spin (Jaddu) departments for the near future.

 

Whenever possible (dead rubbers, easy opponents), we should look to give opportunities and develop a leg spinner (Mishra is on his last legs) and a chinaman (Kuldeep).

For short formats i have hope from M-ashwin needs few season exp under his belt but

for long format, if there isnt one stop finding it, there is a good option in kuldeep.

We need to develop another wicket taking spinner at test level... preferably a wrist spinner who has a better chance of succeeding outside Asia. 

 

Kuldeep Yadav is the front-runner as of now.
