Cricket is slowly loosing the craze in india?

People don't seem as obsessed with Bollywood movies as they used to be, so what's cricket?

I don't get the football following in India. Especially the ones that follow clubs. I have a cousin who is a maniac for Manchester United who has never been to Europe or knows anyone from there. Don't get it. 

The FIFA video game series from the early part of the last decade had a lot to do with it. Even those who did not follow soccer were hooked to the game and started to follow european leagues .

Youngsters today watch football because all their peers are following it and it's the "cool" thing to do.

I tried following football but never loved it as much as Test cricket. Football has art but everything happens too fast for your mind to appreciate the elegance of the game. Test cricket on the other hand is slower, and has much more variety in skills than football, there is no better sight on earth than watching an inswinger pitched on off stump line, straightening off the pitch instead of nipping back into right hander and then sending the off stump cartwheeling with an awesome sound.

I get following a sport possibly even cheering for a team but I'm talking about being a die hard. How can you be in love with a team who belongs to a country that were your oppressors, you've never been to or don't know of anyone being from there? 

This, and there are equal number of chewtiyas who claim Ashes to be the 'pinnacle of cricket'. Such wannabes.

It's mostly due to lack of quality cricket is being played around, and there aren't many quality teams either. I myself was a huge fan of cricket, but now I am starting to like Badminton more these days. I used to watch Tennis too, but nowadays I find it boring when compared it to Badminton.

Let's not even bother with why snoozefest sport played over 5 days isn't popular.

Also to add to the above post is rivarly between fans plays a big part retaining interest.

That's why IPL is hugely popular with youngsters with lot of rivalry amongst friends etc.Same with Football leagues where there are fans of different teams .

But when it comes to bilateral series why would u even bother .If u lose a series we will play another one next week anyway .There isn't much difference between beating Australia or West Indies in reality .

Probably why NRI fans care so much about overseas tours and test cricket compared with Indians .

Completely agree about the rivalry part. I get more fun in IPL because of the rivalry among us friends, colleagues in office. The bragging and making fun of other team's fans, the bettings are just awesome. All these stuff goes missing in International matches, which is why there is no fun.

Whole heartedly agree. With internationals you dont get the fun. With IPL you get fights, trolls, banters, And a competition between friends whose team wins. It's like a festival for 2 months. I see the same with football clubs.

Passion for a team is dependent on the fan base that the players have. Once this young team settles and we have a good bunch of long time players in the team ,I believe that more fans will watch with more  passion and  this dry phase will end. Also WT20s and IPL are as always hot. Day-night matches in India will certainly help. 

On the contrary to some of the comments above, I see test cricket not declining but actually on the rise after its decline post sachin-dravid-viru-kumble era . This of course is a small picture seeing the  followers I have around me. We will have to wait for some time more to decide the fate of the format in India.
