this is utter waste of money.why dont they use that money to build some nuclear power plants instead?

1. Any study to show this is waste of money?

2. Why Japan is giving low interest rate to sell their Bullet trains , I don't think they will allow to use this money on other projects.

 Absurdly wasteful :

"the government of India will spend more on this one line than it does on rail safety, Swachh Bharat, schools, highways or health ."

Misplaced priorities of a man obsessed with self-glorification  ? In march 2015 , the Modi government decided to scrap plans for a universal healthcare scheme due to a “constraint on India's financial resources” !! yet, you did not hear about this on MSM did you ?

Why a bullet train to Ahmedabad??? Whats the point of reaching Amdavad  so quickly? There is nothing to do there.

The most boring city in India. After Surat, i.e.

Obviously, we do need the bullet train to get outta Amdavad back to Mumbai ASAP though.

Why a bullet train to Ahmedabad???

Isn't AMD now compared with Paris (wrt cities in Ind) after the Sabarmati waterfront makeover? .... It is good to have a fast train running b/w the financial and entertainment captail of Ind and the Paris of India :p

Pathetic this indian political landscape, all instant gratification, instant ROI. Spend on bullet trains, sez so that return is within the next 4 years within their terms or even instant fame. Dont work on education, universal healthcare since these things take time to provide ROI but are much more critical for the country. This guy is even more piss poor, prevented the asiatic lions relocation project , now bullet train from mumbai to ahm. Pathetic. but excellent for Indian standards since he is not an outright thief and scoundrel like normal Indian politicians.

wish you had asked the same question to Panditji when we got our independence... Primary education /small scale industries vs IITs/Big Industrial complexes?  I am not sure whats right, but it would have been a nice debate

ps: I will be happy even if 50% of the 98000cr will be spent in India on providing jobs/manufacturing local components of the train

In the Chit-Chat section , i focus on India ,Indian politics , indian economy , indian stock market .....etc

In fact , if you are an NRI and want to learn more about India , i suggest you read my comments.

Sometimes it is better to get an outside perspective.

lol Nehru...you take me for a congi...lol... I would like to call Nehru/and Indira Kandhi/Rajiv Kandhi something but it would be too un-parliamentary here.

BTW did you get what is said, Big industrial complexes are not bad if they are private infra structures. But i cant stand bullet trains/tech parks ( Cyber parks call it Indian ishtylle) with goverment aid/sops, when you have big holes in food, sanitation, health care etc.

Not everything has to be done in series things can be done in parallel as well.

I guess this is the reason India is way behind China,do you think China don't have any issues?now they are second biggest economy in world and pulled lot of poor people to middle class.

Food/Inflation/Health care etc doesn't have magic cards to just eradicate, you cannot solve 60 year old problems in a year or 2.

By the way Why Japan will invest in these things??

'Invest' thats why Japan is investing, primary driver of Investment however non profit would still be ROI, so these are driven by more immediate or short term returns apt investment in foreign countries or local for political mileage rather than programs that are good for the nation in a long run, those will not be done in a political setup like India where very ignorant voters elect criminals commonly. Indian politicos want immediate returns..short term easy fix, big bang for buck, bania, business man like.

i agree things can go in parallel dont mistake me for a far left sympathizer, but public spending needs to be well rounded not skewed towards short term projects. Ahm - Bombay bullet train is hardly needed there are large swathes of the country without electricity and basic amenities. Ahmadabad is a b center does not need a bullet train with Bombay, no need to fillip Gujarat any more, may be spend more on chattisgargh and Orisa if its needs based.

Japan will fund Bullet train as it will help its companies and against Chinese competition.

Regarding Electricity Govt is working on that, unfortunately these stuff lot of times should have started decades ago.

Got your point... mine was a hypothetical question about Nehru. Did not mean to take you for a congi

Agree with you that  any large project is doomed with the inefficiencies of our system(population / semi-literate folks) . Even private parties need to cut lot of corners for implementing big projects

yeah, but i have to agree i have very little grasp on Nehruvian policies except that they caused hindu rate of growth favoured by rampant socialist inefficiencies, my dislike for the dynasty is for the elitism and left leaning lack of nationalism, not for the economic policy per say.
