express bowling Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 (edited) How were Virat's numbers against Oz in Oz before the previous game? Take away Kohli's numbers against SL, and what does he have in ODIs in SA/ENG/NZ/AUS? Stats can be used to back up whatever argument you want to make. Regardless, Dhawan is not doing well - that's not a debate. But is it better to drop him or give him a chance to bounce back and grow as a player? That's not a slam-dunk question to answer. After all, Isn't this the same guy who scored a century against SA in Australia in the WC? Would you have predicted him to win you the champions trophy in English conditions? Will a top order of 3 or 4 right-handers make it that much easier for opposition bowlers to execute their bowling plans? http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/253802.html?class=2;template=results;type=battingIn ODIs Kohli averages 49.27 in Australia62.16 in NZ45.57 in South Africa38.54 in England34.7 in West Indies far better than Dhawan Shikhar Dhawan is quite bad against pace and bounce. He is not that good against the seaming ball or against swing. That is my biggest concern with him. The stats that I stated are basically figures that support that concern. Batsmen who have all these weaknesses find it very difficult to succeed outside the sub-continent unless in superlative form. That is what I stated. He must first remove these weaknesses by practicing hard and then only can he grow as a player. Otherwise, we will contnue seeing these highly inconsistent performances outside the sub-continent. Kohli is very good against pace and bounce, ok against seam and inswing and very very bad against the outswinging delivery. If he is dropped in tests and ODIs in England, when the conditions are favourable for swing... I will fully support it. In other places, his inclusion is not in question. moniker Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 ^ Kohli is an India ATG ODI batsman. Comparing anyone against the likes of Kohli, Dhoni or goddy is expecting too much. Yes, he needs to work on his game and maybe we could get Rahane to open, but we can't expect any replacement to be as good as Kohli.
express bowling Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 (edited) When did Sachin score 100 against Australia in Australia or 100 against NZ in NZ. Australia was 2008 and NZ was in 2009. Sachin scored 38 of his 49 odi 100s in Sub continent. What does that say about Sachin. So according to you when Dhawan scores 100s in England or Australia , it is due to flat pitches , but show me one Indian batsmen who has better record than him. This guy has scored 8 100s and 15 50s in 70 matches which is phenomenal record for any batsman anywhere. What do you expect from him score 100 or fifties all the time.In ODIs... both Kohli and Rohit Sharma have far better averages outside the sub-continent Tendulkar has better averages too....compared to Dhawan Virat Kohli averages 49.27 in Australia62.16 in NZ45.57 in South Africa38.54 in England34.7 in West Indieshttp://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/253802.html?class=2;template=results;type=batting Rohit Sharma averages50.15 in Australia38.28 in NZ12.28 in South Africa38.16 in England54.33 in West Indieshttp://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/34102.html?class=2;template=results;type=batting Tendulkar averages34.67 in Australia39.09 in NZ38.23 in South Africa43.79 in England47.0 in West Indieshttp://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/35320.html?class=2;template=results;type=batting Shikhar Dhawan averages33.84 in Australia,30.83 in NZ,22.66 in West Indies, 6 in South Africa74 in England nothing special as you can seehttp://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/28235.html?class=2;template=results;type=batting Shikhar Dhawan is quite bad against pace and bounce. express bowling Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 A selfish innings by Dhawan today in an attempt to regain form. Wasted a lot of deliveries upfront and got out when he was starting to accelerate. This is a big drawback of such a batting strategy. Mosher 1

Adi_91 Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 His selfish batting too contributed to the loss. That strike rate is terrible in the modern ODI era. The pitch wasn't as bad as he made it out. And worse, he got out without making up for the terrible strike rate making Virat strike from the other end.
Adi_91 Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 By the way Lady Luck has officially deserted Dhawan and India. Whenever Dhawan had scored 50 or above, India had always won before today's match. That streak is over sadly.Must say, when Dhawan made 50 today, I started to have a belief that we are winning today. Heartbroken now,
nevada Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Yay! Dhawan can hack away without any fear of being dropped for another 10 games now!
Shivaji bhonsle Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Kl Rahul should have been picked ahead of Dhawan.
sandeep Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Dhawan is not doing well at the moment, but fickle fans need to calm down. With one side of the mouth, posters rant about how we need to invest long-term in our fast bowlers inspite of bad performances etc and the other side, can't wait to drop someone else to bring in the new flavor of the month. This is not fantasy cricket, or Madden/FIFA on xbox, where you pick player names and juice up your scoring. And our team is not run by PCB. You don't just wreak havoc on player's confidence and mindset by threatening them all the time. Dhawan has his flaws, but he is doing a job as a left-handed opener, and has earned a bit of a rope. Not forever, but at least for a few games. Personally, I do believe Rahane can do what Rohit is doing at the top of the order (without the clean hitting), and would like to see him at the top of the order, but its still too early to call for sacking Shikhar just yet.Bump. Dont be shy, let's hear from those who wanted to drop Dhawan, see what they thought of his batting in the 4th ODI.

Dont be shy, let's hear from those who wanted to drop Dhawan, see what they thought of his batting in the 4th ODI.Dhawan batted very well today. But his issue has been lack of consistency in outside sub-continent matches ( reflected in his lowish averages in all outside sub-continent countries except England ... which I have listed above ) ....and that issue still remains big time. His hitting talent has always been there .....I want to see him improve his batting against pace, bounce, seam and swing....practice hard to achieve it....otherwise the outside sub-continent inconsistency won't be rectified. His innings in the last but one ODI was very disappointing...as he played too slowly to regain form.

Why are you comparing Dhawan to Kohli or Tendulkar. One is lock in all time odi line up and other one is getting there.Compare Dhawan to other options you have right and Rahane is definitely not option, Rahane is like Dravid who has impressive stats but never invoked any fear in any batting line up when batting at no3 , Dravid became useful when started as wk but then you had Yuvi.Dravid would not be in the team right now.Unless there is another opener bursting thru Dhawan has to remain as ODI opener in any condition.

His entire career, Shikhar has been a "flow" based player. You can tell with 95% probability in the first 10 balls whether he is going to bat well or hack his way to an ugly innings with a under-par score and predictable silly dismissal. Technically speaking, He's actually decent against pace and bounce, not so great against swing. He's never going to be at ease against the moving ball, the way he bats. Biggest room for improvement is actually against spinners. He is almost aussie like in his over-dependence on the sweep shot against spinners. But all of this aside, bottomline is, that in a team running low on power hitting and top-order lefties, he checks both boxes and does it really well when in flow. This is not to say that he is a lock in the team forever - if he slumps for a prolonged period and doesn't perform,he should be dropped. But the knee-jerk reactions earlier in the series were extreme and trigger-happy, for sure.

In modern day ODis, flat tracks are dime a dozen. We have to follow a horses for courses policy if we want a winning team in various conditions. This team, like most others all over the world, has very few all condition players Edited January 21, 2016 by express bowling putrevus 1
Adi_91 Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Looks like he is getting back to some decent form now. This is good news after a long time that most of our batsmen are back.Big question, will our bowlers find any inspiration soon who are getting
