fineleg Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 (edited) Our top order in December/Jan has been used to flat pattas in Aus. See ball, come onto bat, hit. Not working if pitch is not patta in India. As far as Pandya - need to see over another series or two. Edited February 9, 2016 by fineleg

GautiMaan Posted February 10, 2016 Author Posted February 10, 2016 Its not his batting but his bowling that could cost us and that is not going to improve in a month.
rkt.india Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Panday didnt bowl badly at all. He was okay.
express bowling Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 (edited) Its not his batting but his bowling that could cost us and that is not going to improve in a month.Pandya bowled decently yesterday. Most deliveries were good length and around off stump. Got seam movement too. Bowled a good bouncer which the batsman top-edged and it lobbed up behind the keeper and went for four.He was actually more economical than front-line bowlers Nehra and Jaddu. Bowled a good bouncer which the batsman top-edged and it lobbed up behind the keeper and went for four.He was actually more economical than front-line bowlers Nehra and Jaddu. Nehra was bowling beautifully....going for wickets and gave us the breakthroughs....even the 6 and 4 off him were shots out of desperation that were 50-50 chances. As far as Jadeja goes this was not a pitch for spinners. Now coming to Pandya.....yeah he was bowling at 135+ and a good length but on such a pitch he did not even beat the bat once or produce one delivery that looked like taking a wicket....The lankan batsmen were overt-cautious and hence he got away with a lower economy rate.See I get why there is so much love for Pandya as he is a rare breed of a seamer who can hit 140+ and can hold a bat....but his bowling is not upto the mark in internationals so far and will give him benefit of the doubt with the bat yesterday. But so far we are just justifying him but I haven't even seen a spark of wow this kid has the ability moment from him. MCcricket Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Guys even all time greats allrounder took time to show their class, have ull watched Kallis when he debuted or other allrounders.Look at positivesVery agile n good fielder, strong guyTemperament looks good, seems confidentPlayed the strokes n showed he spots the ball early n has batting talent n techniqueHas a good whippy action like Jason Gillespie, can bowl 135 to 142 range is impressiveThis guy has immense potential n should be persisted with, under Kohli we will know how good he is as Dhoni n his negative mindset can destroy most bowlersWhat we need is to choose a proper ODI n t20 teamWonder when Jadeja the so called batsmen will ever show up n not hide behind tailendersYuvraj is finished n Pandey, M Agarwal, D Hooda, H Pandya, should be pickedWe need a revamp of ODI n t20 squadsRahane , Yuvraj, Jaddu , Dhoni should be outMy t20 squad will beRohit can score fastDhawan S/RVirat versaNegi:M Pandey can win gamesK Jadhav bat n keeper extremely good S/R n is Sehwag like player with good wristM Agarwal talented n experienced thru IPL n domesticMandeep Singh same with MandeepD Hooda big hitter n can bowl spinP Negi sameK YadavAshwin wow the way he batted last t20 showed this guy can be as good as LaxmanShamiBumrahAniket ChoudhuryIrfan Pathan ODI squadDhawanRohitViratManish PandeyKJadhav M AgarwalMandeep SinghH PandyaI PathanK YadavM ShamiJ BumrahV AaronAshwinD Hooda Test SquadVijayPujaraRahaneViratKL RahulK JadhavW SahaUnmukt ChandH VihariAshwinS GopalJ SaxenaH Pandya Aniket ChoudhuryUmeshM ShamiIshant tweaker and Shivaji bhonsle 2

He is a batting all-rounder....so his bowling is not expected to be at par with a specialist.Secondly...he is a work-in-progress and not a finished product as of now. He has played just 13 FC matches and is quite raw. Players often take a lot of time to mature...just like your Rohit in LOIs and Ishant in test matches. They are doing very well in the mentioned formats now but just think how much time they took to get going. Every new talent has to be given time to develop if the talent to succeed in internationals is there.Pandya is a big hitter and can hit sixes frequently. His primary role, as of now, would be to come in late in the innings in LOIs and start hitting big. We lack such kinds of players in our batting line-up in the lower-middle order. He can play proper innings too, as we saw in the match SA vs. Board President's 11, where Steyn, Philander and Morkel were bowling.A batsman like Pandya who can hit big when required , play a proper innings when required and can send down some decent overs at 132 k to 142 k, can be a big asset in internationals but we have to give him atleast 18 months to develop. We should not expect any new player to start performing like a seasoned pro immediately. If the talent to succeed in internationals is there then a long rope, loads of encouragement and proper guidance should be given. Ankit_sharma03 Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 Yes agreed but should he be in the playing xi of a wc team before his bowling has developed fully and in a format where a bad over or two can cost us the game?Even a main bowler can go for plenty in a t20 game, u can expect that. In 2007t20 wc we had guy named sreesanth who had more chances than nyone to go for plenty. and there are enough part timers. His bowling wud get better with time n confidence, tht y we all re advocating him to bat up get some runs . That thing makes u feel comfertable at international level and then u can be yourself. We need a guy like him with his hitting abilityN i dnt get the point of being harsh on him. His eco was 6 only which is quite decent in T20.No point judging someone when he only has bowled 10 over in Int cricket. tweaker 1
Gunner Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 IMO we should play5 Specialist BatsmenDhoni (wk)Pandya (allrounder)and 4 bowlers (including Jadeja and Ashwin)The way I see it, your top 5 and Dhoni should be good enough to bat out just 20 overs. And the options of Pandya and Raina will help in case any of the specialist bowlers has a bad day. tweaker 1

I have been talking about trying out new talents like Pandya, Negi, Hooda, Iyer etc. atleast 8 months before the World T20. There has been complete lack of foresight and planning from the selectors as far as introducing new players are concerned. We have 3 players now in our WC team , in Pandya, Bumrah and Negi, who are absolute newbies in international cricket. As of now, we don't have an established player who can play World T20 as a lower order big-hitter and a decent bowler...so it has to be Pandya or Negi. Binny's bowling won't work in India. tweaker 1

Dhoni as a captain is the biggest issue who has built no bench strength because it is a gamble to play new players which Dhoni does not like to take these days. tweaker and Mosher 2

Even in our first-choice LOI teams, we were lacking a lower-middle order big hitter as well as a decent all-rounder but Dhoni did not try new players to meet these requirements even in dead rubbers. Ankit_sharma03 Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Harbhajan or Shami could've been played...Disappointing to see this thread poping everytime pandya goes for few runs. 1st we create so much hype n want the guy in the team, then we dnt hve the patience to let him fail n learnGuys like rohit, raina after tons n tons of domestic exp failed numerous times. This guy has jst played very few domestic. N contributes with bat , ball n in field . If we nt keep patience lets not post any more talents.N bhajji- the same guy who cudnt get wkts in sri lanka n bang test were ashwin was almost unplayableShami - he has just come out an injury and doesnt ahve a gud slower one. Also not a gud fielder like pandya. LETS NOT FORGET PANDYA CONTRIBUTION OF THE CATCH AND AFRIDI WKT
