The right time for Shreyas Iyer to enter the Indian Team

When you see him play for the first time, you could tell Iyer had lots of potential. Draft this kid into the Indian team already will you?  He'll learn a lot more and mature as batsman.  The selectors probably want him to play domestic for a couple of seasons before blooding him but he could still have been drafted into the t20/odi setup and still play domestic first class.  One player to watch out for sure

I wud like to add him to that for sure, rather taking guys like raydu, manoj tiwary, kedhar jadhav ,uthappa

N i expect bcci to have lot of A-tours post ipl , n also while we are on west indies tour. That 3-4 months is time where Max-exposures shud be given to players like iyer,nair,unmukt,samson,kuldeep,jayant,nathu ,sran and few more

Also, It wud Ipl wud have a say. He had a gr8 domestic season and another gud ipl will make it exteremly hard to ignore him.

As far getting in the team, well that depends on a lot of things . First , is there a place. with rahane,pandey,raina dhoni,pandya already there and i also expect gurkeerat to get few more chances. There might be an issue for place. But if u ask my opinion ill have him in middle order asap. Middle order ill rather have guys who can be match changer than someone like rahane. 

Also i would like to one batsman who could give me few overs on consistent basis coz i really want to play Pandya in odi squad n he doesnt look like who cud give me 10 over all time . So for thats were Gurkeerat, deepak hooda , raina even vijay shankar can get a spot before him in squad. 

But selectors shudnt miss a chance to give few new player a chance on Zimb tour keeping in mind to fill the gaps in Odi team.

As far spot in test team is concerned , i find it diff for him to get a place so early. Specially till he does well overseas on A-tours. Odi cricket have become easy now with flat pitches around. 

N i dnt find a spot in test squad there, PPl will forget Rohit misery in test after his short format exploits. Kohli is keen to have an all rounder at 6. That makes Rohit sharma a backup and guys like binny,jadeja, shankar front runner for no 6 position. And Kl rahul is already benched.

Iyer's stroke-play was impressive

Scoring the only hundred of the final match ( a low scoring game )  was commendable too.

But.......the way he handled the bouncers from Unadkat...bowled at 130 k to 135 k...is a cause of worry. He needs to work on this aspect.

If he can't handle Unadkat's bumpers, that's worrying.

Iyer is a front foot batsman predominantly. So, he might have some issues with short stuff. But if he is good, he will overcome that. Even KP is like that. At times, even vinay Kumar had him in trouble against short ball. You dont need to be perfect to be a successful cricketer.

But ranji teams would have figure it out in first season and used it against him in the second season....Thats the reason why second ranji season is very important...

Since he is successful in second ranji season, we can fairly say that he can adjust in intl arena even with those known weakness

Most Ranji teams don't have multiple bowlers who can bowl a barrage of effective bouncers, even if they know that is the weakness of a batter.

However...this is a problem which is solvable by practicing hard against short-pitched stuff.   Many batsmen have it in the early part of their careers and solve it as they mature.

By the way....in last year's IPL, Iyer was actually playing decent hook shots to pacers like Morris....did not look this vulnerable then.

The problem is that there aren't too many genuine pacers at the Ranji level, Unadkat is by no means quick, gets it upto 135k max, he will face faster bowlers if he plays for India, a better indication would be his performances at the India 'A' level, not sure if he has played for that side.

On his Ranji performances he deserves place , but I just have my doubts about how long he will last . Dhawans place in LOI sides ? At best he could do a similar role

Iyer is very young...just 21 now...there is a chance that he can mature in the near future and play more responsibly.

Dhawan, on the other hand, is 30 years old and  is about as good as he ever will be.
