Mel McLaughlin slammed on social media for 'double standards' for saying she'd buy Mark Waugh a drink

Sports journalist Mel McLaughlin has been thrust into the spotlight once again after offering to buy a former cricketer a drink after she got his name wrong on live TV.

During a post-match segment after the Big Bash clash between the Melbourne Renegades and the Adelaide Strikers on Monday McLaughlin slipped up and called Mark Waugh by Damien Fleming's name.

The Channel 10 journalist, Waugh, and fellow panel guest Kevin Pietersen all dissolved into laughter with McLaughlin apologising and joking: 'I'll buy you a drink'.

You are missing the point about double standards. If an old man in 50s acts like the same way around a 20 something girl even acknowledging that he is an old "horny" man, it would be considered creepy. You think it is funny and gracious for a woman to behave like this. Women flirt is sexy because they are consenting. When guys flirt people think he is a creep. Whatever she did here was making him and some people squirm. It was beyond the line.

You are entitled to your opinion. However, I felt that she was just having some fun and trying to appreciate the handsome man. I did not feel (at least from the short clip) that she was actually looking to go out with him 

On double standard, there is a much deeper issue at play. To understand, we only need to look at the number of sexual assaults on women by men vs. on men by women. With such a bad reputation (relatively speaking) that men have acquired, it is natural that we will be judged differently and expected to act more responsibly

why are you generalizing gayle like that?the same way many people will generalize mel like that because basically she's also asking out waugh for a drink while in duty (which was the charge on gayle) .

what gayle did was unprofessional but no way was he being a pervert.hey I am completely fine with what mel said to waugh but she got it back rightly from the social media and rightly called a hypocrite.
