Was gambhir's 97 run innings in WC finals the most underrated ever?

Agree, the innings is not given its due. It was the backbone of our final victory. I think if Gauti had scored 3 more runs, a century in the finals would have been remembered more.

He was always a team man.

It's not. Every Indian cricket fan keeps Gambhir in high regard because of his innings in WT20 2007 and WC 2011 finals. Gambhir's innings was as clutch as it comes and maybe it takes a back-seat to Dhoni's innings coz of the winning shot hit by Dhoni to win the match. That six by Dhoni is probably the most viewed cricketing shot ever and has become synonymous with India's win, so casual wins may not be aware of value of Gambhir's innings but the hardcore fans sure are,

Dont know about others but still that innings gives me goosebumps..

What an innings to play after starting at 0/1...He along with Virat played beautifully..That 81 runs partnership was crucial.

Sehwag's wicket suddenly took me back to flashback of 2003 wc at that time as it was our best shot to win wc and then Gambhir played that innings..

For me it was the best inning of the match as:

  • Team was chasing
  • Team lost 2 quick wkts
  • Pressure of playing in the WC final

I have said this before....Gambhir's innings was one of the best ever in a worldcup final.......infact Dhoni's innings was the 3rd best innings of the game behind Gambhir and Lady Jaya in that order.

It was Gambhir and Kohli who set the game up and Dhoni credit where due handled the pressure beautifully to get us over the line comfortably.

Absolutely, even his perfomance was very underrated in 2007 t20 Wc,

But What about Zaheer khans perfomance, wasnt that really underrated, its not even mentioned in ur above point. My biggest issue is in our country bowlers contribution being overshadowed by batsman. What about Rp singh n Irfan pathan in 2007 t20 Wc.

Sreeshanth bowled a maiden in the middle...either side of getting smacked :haha: but have to say him holding on to that catch probably required nerves of steel
