Dhoni 's stupid captaincy

Let's not forget that today, because of Dhoni's captaincy, the streak that has been on since 1992 would have ended, if not for Kohli

Good that we got out of the jail (once more) and future captains will be sensible enough to not give Pak any advantage

He is our best batsman. Others are hopeless, except Dhoni.

The points  here are very simple....

  • On a pitch which is massively assisting spinners...the part time bowlers used should be spinners.  Why was Yuvraj not used at all  ?
  • Raina bowled a good first over conceding just 4 runs and took  1  wicket. Why was he not brought back,  especially on a pitch which is turning square ?
  • Why was Ashwin's quota not used fully on such a square turner ?

Kohli saved Dhoni's strange decisions today.

Just amazed Yuvi didn't bowl a single over, and Raina only bowled one.

My only guess, once he felt pak wont be posting a big score (confident India can chase) he wanted to give youngsters Pandya and Bumrah more match practice.

I agree his bowling selection today were baffling. And tbh, I think Dhoni will go soon, at least from captaincy.

That is all that is needed .... As a player, he can play as long as he likes as long as he is performing

Dhoni made one mistake today.Bowling Pandya 2nd over instead of trying Yuvi.Pandya's first over was very good he took the wkt of Afridi and only conceded 5 till the 5 overthrows

As for Ashwin not bowling 4 overs it wasnt a big deal.Bumrah bowled instead and gave only 7 runs. With Sarfraz batting Ashwin could have gone for more easily.Due was affecting as well. Its daft to say he should have been bowled out within first 8 overs. They whom u go if a strong partnership was going and Jadeja was troubling?

But not really surprising ICF is whinning as usual about Dhoni. Our clueless geniuses were whinning and wanting to drop Jadeja in Asia cup when we were hammering every team.

Because Raina was bowling to a left handed batsman. You don't bowl off spinners to Pakistani batsmen, that too against the likes of Malik and Hafeez who made their careers playing off spin. Lol

Raina was not bought back because Afridi is good against SPIN

Pandya got his wicket next over... He in't that great against Pace.. The same tactic used by Irfan in 2007 T20WC

That could have been the thought process although Afridi would have found it tougher to hit spinners on this pitch.

After Afridi was dismissed it would have been better if Pandya was not continued with as he gave away 10 runs in his first over.

Are you people forgetting something? Only 3 bowlers can bowl 4 overs in a 18 over match.... :hysterical:

Bumrah and Nehra  could  had easily bowl 3 overs , also what about other spinners like Yuvi or Raina

That 10 run over was not Pandya's fault. He only gave 5 runs and 5 run was overthrow.

Yuvi should be used only when it is absolute necessary.

Raina was bowling to a left handed batsman when he came to bowl. You don't give overs to Raina when the spin killers like Malik and Hafeez are batting.

Especially that guy Malik. He made a career out of playing against Indian part time bowlers.

Also look at New zealand for captaincy , dropped Nathan Mcllum who got 2 wickets against India and replaced it with Mitchell mclenaghan and He became Mom , Dhoni is persisting with same team from past 12-13 T20s despite pitch condition changing drastically

bumrah did well in last over 7 runs.. what's all this crying about

Bumrah's 3rd over went for 13 , it could had been easily replaced by Ashwin's

This pitch was different.  Turning square and no batsmen could play spin here till they were very well set.  Even then it was not easy.

Bumrah is a very good death bowler. I don't blame Dhoni for bowling him in the end. Even if he had gone for runs, this decision is perfectly justified.

From a high level perspective, this was about bowling out (or picking up enough wkts) Pak to around 100 (5.5 RPO). With the right bowlers bowling, it is hard for an opposition to go at 6 an over or more on this type of wkts. Dhoni's captaincy made that possible for Pak .... If you look at Ind's batting, apart of Kohli, the top 5 struggled to score at 6.5 RPO (Pak's RR)

Best lesson can be learned from the Ind vs Pak test played at B'lore in 1987.  Here is the scorecard - http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/current/match/63456.html

Talking about respecting the conditions, look at the number of overs bowlers such as Imran and Wasim bowled in that test .... While Dhoni had 55% of the overs bowled by pacers
