Malcolm Merlyn Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Something about Wankhede pitch intrigues me.The venue lays out some strange pitches. In 2015 during SA-India ODI the pitches for first 4 ODIs were assisting a bit of spin or a bit slow.Come to Wankhede for the final ODI and series decider and they lay out a flat track and SA score 400 plus. In 2016 T20 WC all of India matches were either on turners or on pitches that assisted some turn.Come to Wankhede and we get a flat track again. Does it not appear to the groundsman at Wankhede that because our strength is batting we can probably score runs on most pitches but our bowling esp. spinners need some help from the pitch and we are good to go.How long will Wankhede continue to be like this?
zen Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 We won the 2011 WC because of some of the same reasons we lost today - dew, which makes it hard for the bowlers to grip the ball and the balls skids of the pitch as well to come on nicely on to the bat In general, I prefer sporting pitches in LOIs. However will take flat pitches over rank turners / Wimbledon strips diehardpacer and zep1706 2

But this has been an age old problem. where sometimes games can be won/loss at toss Still remember that tonking Watson gave India in SL World T20 after rain, because spinners couldn't grip wet ball.

vayuu1 Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 Why selecting jhandu venues like Mumbai on first place, no offence to Mumbai icfers, but this isn't the team filled with power hitters, we should have selected other venue, may be mohali, we had seen the trailer during south Africa odi, knowing fully it's a batathon,barring 2011 victory, Mumbai has been a manhoos ground for us and yesterday proved it remained so. BCCI president ensured that one SF at least went there. Actually final would have been allotted there if not for late Jagmohan Dalmiya.

Also, Shashank Manohar's hometown/region is Vidharba (Nagpur) not Mumbai.
