Will MSD refuse to play as just a player?

Lot of people want MSD to relinquish captaincy, but continue as keeper-batsman. I'd support that too.

But assuming he doesnt relinquish, and if selectors remove him from captaincy, will he agree to play as wk-batsman, or his ego will make him announce retirement? Who are the alternate wk-batsmen if he chooses to retire? (Pls. dont suggest W.Saha for T20/ODI)

Sanju Samson should play in T20s. Nobody can replace Dhoni as a player... However a new captain I'll have fresh ideas, strategies, team selection to get a balanced team. It's a pity that Dhoni is not flexible in team selections, batting order etc. For example his adamant approach of playing Raina at number 4 else he himself will bat and not allow any other batsman to bat ahead of Raina is baffling...There's no justification of it... Can't shrug off these issues like having bad days etc...

every team played a leggies on these pitches... But no, Dhoni will not have a leggie in the team... Dhoni fans will keep on blaming the ground, pitch, conditions, individual players, fielder, bowler, batsmen but never ever question Dhoni and his tactics...

Now that Srinivasan has gone it might happen. Selectors already wanted to remove Dhoni from captaincy a couple of years ago.  The next Srini might be wanting to establish with Kohli in any case.

It won't... Dhoni is a Pahari (origin from hill states like Himanchal, Uttarakhand etc.). BCCI honcho Anurag Thakur backs him now...

Dhoni will retire as captain. When Ganguly who played 13 finals in ODIs ( sure, rain saved 2-3 finals) and could not win a single finals (except Natwest , rain affected champions trophy) nor cup, but still captained India for 6 years, why not Dhoni?

 

Azharuddin also did not win any single finals as far as I remember, but remained captain for 10 years , why not Dhoni.

 

Thing is everybody is bored with old captain after several years and it is completely understandable. 

 

But Dhoni just recently won the asia cup. So we must give him some time and let him make the call after 1 or 2 years, based on his form.

Ganguly captained India for 5 years, not 10. Dhoni already captain for 9 years.

I suspect Dhoni will cling on to whatever money and limited fame is getting from even a non-captaining role and swallow his ego. Don't blame him.

Dhoni will play as a player .... Since Dhoni is in the last phase of his career, Ind would have to start looking for replacement and grooming viable alternatives

 

Dhoni can be phased out in a planned manner, first from T20s and then from ODIs  .... Based on how Dhoni retired in tests, he knows that it is better to quit when people ask why than why not so he will probably try to go on a high

Dhoni has backing of some powerful BCCI official. The way he is making fun of reporter who ask about his retirement, is proof of this. He is confident,he will captain the team & he will get the team he wants.

The question is how many more tournaments he's going to cost us before someone kicks him out for good. 

 

Nah, I don't think his bloated ego will let him play under someone, he's so far up his arse, its making him difficult to think straight.

BCCi won't remove him from captaincy or any non performing stars because they lose advertisement shares.Barring Dravid and Sachin,all other Indian captains had to be sacked.

There is barely an international T20 cricket played and the next tournament is not for another 4 years so no point for Dhoni to be there. Let a younger player be given the chance to expereicne captaincy and tactics.

 

For ODIs given that the next WC is 3 years away it would make sense for Kohli (or even Nohit) to take over the captaincy. What's the motivation for Dhoni to hang around being a rudderless captain in meaningless bilateral series?
