His approach to build up test team is excellent. Very good to see him back likes of Shafiq, Azhar, Yasir and Sarfraz. This has resulted in solid test team. Also credit to ex coach Waqar. Only probably question mark is about his love for Hafeez.

His family prioritised his education, and it was not until after his Masters degree that he made his first-class debut at 24. He did not become a Pakistan regular until he was 33 and his international career was apparently over when, in 2010, at the age of 36 he was recalled to the team as captain. Misbah was the last, last, last resort for a country in disarray. In the previous 18 months there had been the terrorist attack on the Sri Lanka team in Pakistan, the spot-fixing scandal in England and other allegations of match-fixing.

 

Misbah has only recently become a national treasure. He was made a scapegoat for his batting in defeats to India in the World T20 final of 2007 and the World Cup semi-final of 2011, and for a long time was the subject of vicious criticism over his cautious captaincy. He had complete courage of his convictions, a particularly admirable quality in a world where independent thought is increasingly endangered. Others can shout their opinions. Misbah doesn’t need to. Misbah knows.

He has won over almost everybody now. After sorting out Pakistan cricket, Misbah should turn his attention elsewhere: the Brexit fallout, perhaps, or the X Factor’s plummeting ratings. Who wouldn’t stay home on a Saturday night to match Misbah mentor a 37-year-old teacher from Grimsby with a dream and a half-decent falsetto?

 

With his antiquated values of dignity, modesty and patience, Misbah has shown that sometimes it’s good to be behind the times and given hope to those who believe there is an alternative way of doing things – not just in Test cricket, but in life. Kipling’s ‘If’ could have been written about him. So could parts of old Paul Robeson song: Ol’ Man Misbah: he must know sumpin’ but he don’t say nuthin’, he just keeps on rolling along.

Only sensible player from Pakistan from last 10 years....surprisingly he didn't get the respect he deserved and lot of Pakistan's hated him for unknown reasons...

Is it something to do with his sect (I mean shia / sunni stuff)?

Misbah and Inzy combination is working wonders for them....I am sure, it wouldn't be long before politics take over and undo the good work being done by these folks

^ Misbah initially for few years was not much popular, rather vastly criticized and at times hated just bcz of his tuk-tuk style of batting (probably people were too much into Afridi school of batting)... also matches like 2011 SF were a reason where people took him as a reason of uncontrollable ReqRR at the end but things started to slowly chnaged afer 2011-12, Misbah also started to play at better pace now, people started to understand he is rather a savior who mostly appears at 45/4 situation and always try taking Pak till end; not much of an issue if he is at 20(45) because he usually ends at like 65(80). After his ODI retirement there's still a majority who think probably he could've stayed a little more. Believe me by now situation is entirely different and he is most respectable cricketer among Pakistani fans... but probably indian friends still think everything is same with Pakistanis whatever it was 4,5 years ago...

Selectors did noticed him quite early and he actually got Test cap too very soon; just in start of 2001 but most of the times remained at bench, I do not blame selectors here since we had Inzi, Yousuf, Younis all of them playing and doing great and more importantly for some reason Misbah too was unable to perform whenever he got those on/off chances even at Pakistani wickets... it was then after Inzi he got included again, now he too started to perform, played few big knocks and became permanent member of team (was Pakistani top scorer in indian tour 2007)...

he was  scoring slowly maybe because of the scoreboard pressure..

when he wants to play shots and score freely , he can do it will .. misbah scored a test macth century in 56 or 57 balls i guess

Good one Asim.....i never knew that he made a first class debut at 24. Had i knew this case study, i would have tried serious cricket after my engineering. Unfortunately, it's too late.

 

Little off-topic, are there any good cricket institutes in Hyderabad (India). When is the ideal age to start the training. My son is 7 years old.
