Wrestling and Boxing Akhadas in Haryana are privately owned ......so is Gopichand academy......Men's Hockey team that qualified ,most of them play leagues abroad correct me fi I am wrong..Bindra was rich and he provided for his own training....I don't think there is any government run organization for Golf-Aditi Ashok ttrained herself ....I beleive track and field and may be Dipa the gymnast where the only ones who used government facilities.

I know for a fact that the women's hockey team from India trained in the USA,infact they trained in the town next to where I live in USA.

Govt.facilities will not help till actual competent trainers and coaches are either hired or take initiative like Gopichand has done.

There was a lot of red-tape involved even in the land that the govt. sanctioned Gopichand for his academy but ...The govt technically did provide the facility.

1)Athletes and talent are there but we have coaches and managers who are interested in a vacation than actually doing their job...the marathon runner completed her laps without anyone offering her even water.

2)Lack of talent scouting, grooming and focus.....Indian badminton is doing well because Saina,Srikanth,Kashyap and Sindhu all came through a proper system...their talent was identified at a young age and they found the right mentor and good facilities.

Let us take the example of BCCI, corrupt and lot of politics involved but they take good care of the cricketers current and former, spend a lot of money where required...but we still are not producing consistent bowlers...so it is not just the money and facilities fro mthe government, you need right people to implement it.

Five embarrassing moments for India in Rio

  • Indian boxers were threatened with disqualification after they turned up in shirts which didn't have India's logo - a key requirement at the Games.
  • Sports Minister Vijay Goel was reportedly warned after some of his staff behaved rudely and tried to enter the venues without proper accreditation.
  • The minister received further criticism when he wished luck to Indian sprinter Srabani Nanda, but ended up posting the picture of another athlete, Dutee Chand, with his tweet.
  • The appointment of a radiologist as the chief medical officer of the Indian team in Rio also received criticism. Authorities, however, said that the radiologist, the son of a senior sports official, "knew sports medicine well".
  • Some hockey players complained that they were invited to an official function to celebrate India's Independence Day, but "were only given peanuts to eatinstead of proper dinner".

Money should also be directed to Sindhu's training and for the welfare of other shuttlers, not like this.

The problem still remains that our kids don't take up sports because parents discourage as it is high risk when it comes to returns. Wonder if the mentality will ever change and funds will ever go to the right people at the right time when it benefits their training for big tournaments.

^ that is because for generations we have seen scarcity of resources. Majority of the population has been through abject poverty. Seeking basic necessity, a security of livelihood and little comfort is the only dream of masses. you guys come from new generation but time is changing very fast. There are success stories everywhere now and we need to build on to it.

No body puts money in a start-up unless there is a promise of return. Each sport event will have to earn that honor and privilege and rest will follow.

Olympics were supposed to provide a stage to individual atheletes to show their skills.

Thanks to developed countries making it a prestige issue,  it has now become an auction disguised in sporting event where they can lottery fund their talents and buy them a medal.

I hope our government makes sure there are structural changes to utilise the funds to sports better rather than doubling or tripling funds. There is no point in that.

Even in Aus or UK people question their governments that is it really necessary to spend truck loads of money on a single sportsman who is never gonna get noticed. The same money can be used to make many lives better if it is invested in infrastructure or medical.

Spending such a huge amount when 15 lakh children  in die because of malnutrition is not something which India should do
