India was good in batting reviews. England reviewed too many - 16 v/s 8

Eng was better in bowling reviews, India reviewed too many - 28 v/s 16

 

India needs to learn bowling reviews better, to consult all the team and not just the bowler. Bowler always wants a review psychologically.

It was pretty obvious that while fielding we were pretty much reviewing every time the bowler was convinced. The wicket-keeper should be convinced and should play an active role in referrals. Parthiv was keeping some of those reviews in check.

 

While batting, early in the series, likes of Pujara just forgot that they could review decisions. Towards the latter part though, we reviewed pretty well. Batting reviews are generally going to have more chances of success as batsmen are unlikely to review when they know they are out.

It seems like India definitely get the best out of DRS and hopefully Kohli pushes the use of technology, including Hotspot as well. The ball tracking is iffy especially with umpires' call. The impact and hitting wkts are left to umpire in case of doubt. It looks v bad when the ball is seen hitting the middle stump but umpire strikes the review down based on impact.

Ideally umpire's call on impact and pitching should go in bowler's favor and umpire's call on hitting stumps should go in batsman's favor to make it very fair.

Total 18 decisions overturned in this series, 10 in favor of India and 8 in favor of England and there are hardly any controversial decisions using DRS.

 

Just shows what has been missing from other series earlier.

I don't like looking at DRS usage like this, since stats like this fail to adjust for "use it or lose it" type of reviews. 

 

But there is no doubt India's bowling reviews are poor.

I don;t think such reviews account to 1 or 2, very small percentage , especially when one is using it desperately to break a partnership.

Part of the wicket keeper's role should be to be the one who makes the call on a review.

The bowlers way too regularly seem convinced and forced Kohli's hand.

 

Players also seem to forget if its clipping it will go with umpires call.

 

On the DRS stats, they don't really say much as half the reviews made are situational. Whether it be a key batsmen, a desperate need for a wicket or coming up to 80 overs where they'll get topped up on reviews.

I wish they add the unused reviews from previous 80 over slot to the next 80 overs quota. So, if a team has used up one review in the first 80 overs, would have 3 reviews in the next 80 overs. Since after 160 overs there are no more reviews, the can use unused reviews after 160 overs.
