Rohit S. Ambani Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 Modi has already undermined the credibility of the Indian currency by demonetization and now he has undermined the credibility of the Indian passport. The idea is preposterous, passport is not just a travel document but an internationally accepted proof of identity. It is classical myopia of the Modi Government which is making such obnoxious decisions. It’s not just a political move but a move driven by religion. Other communities will also demand the same and this will open up a Pandora's box. Link Singh bling 1
BeautifulGame Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 This is verging on comical absurdity .
sandeep Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 WTF is this? How is this not a violation of "Uniform Civil code" that the fundoos claim to want to impose on the "backward" muslims?

The point is that those who claim to be on the side of modernity and the rule of law when it comes to uniform civil code, should be strongly against this nonsense as well.

How does this undermine the secular credentials as well as the modernity of the country? It is an additional legal provision whereby an orphaned/non-orphaned holy person can use his/her Guru as his/her legal guardian. You think this is detrimental to the religious fabric of the country? As long as acts like the RTE, where minority educational institutions are exempt from reserving their seats for BPL students, or state sponsored pilgrimages like Hajj and Kailash Mansarovar exist, UCC will only be a pipe dream. If the minorities don't want UCC then why should the majority commit harakiri by trying to set an example? How has 70 years of setting an example helped the majority? Temple funds are managed by govts. instead of the temple trusts; does that happen with Churches or Mosques? Look, let me give you some info as an insider from the minority community; the biggest problem faced by minorities today, whether we are aware of it or not, is our own sense of entitlement. Please don't feed it further by being apologetic. Tibarn and diga 2
beetle Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 I don't find any contradiction. Even single mothers can now get passport for child without fathers name. Why should an adult need a parents name for getting a passport? What is the need for father's(parents) name as long as the person has valid identification and no criminal record. Children /I can understand...but why do adults need a parents name? Stupid rule. G_B_ 1

There are already legal avenues in place for someone who wants to change their next of kin or for orphans etc. Absolutely no need to create"guru" exceptions at the passport level. And I'm not even going to bother responding to jalebi's self confused diatribe. It doesn't merit one.
velu Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 (edited) both @Texy and @Kumar would name their guru as vatsayana Edited December 25, 2016 by velu G_B_ 1

Do you have the slightest idea about how difficult it is to remove or replace your biological father's name form the passport? Here is what happened with someone i know,he married a divorcee when the age of her son was 14.When the son applied for passport and wanted to put the name of his step father he was not allowed.Even adoption proceedings were not allowed since at the time of marriage the age of the son was more than 12 years. They ha to run helter skelter and finally some under the table dealing helped. For a sanyaasi his guru is his adopted father.
