Maharaj is a new untested spinner. We don't know how he will fare in spin friendly conditions.

SA have won matches and drawn series in India in past with help of their pacers. They never needed a spinner for that.

Only Pak, Aus and SA have real fast bowlers. Rest are just medium pacers attack. Indian And SL attack is basically spin attack. They use medium pacers to take shine off new ball to make way for their spinners.

Pak HAD a pace attack. Now, it doesnt have one either.

The last time they were here they lost. Besides, question asks which is the best bowling attack now, not in the past. Current one lacks a tried and tested spin bowler.

They had one of the greatest ever bowler ,maybe even the greatest ever, to compensate for that. They dont come around that often .

Well they still needed to rely on Nicky Boje in one series.

Last time they were here they were bowling out India for 200.

Point is SA with their set of best 4 bowlers have managed to bowl well in all conditions which none of current set of bowlers from any other team can claim.

Even Aus pacers have won them series in the past in India.

They struggled in India and UAE.They will struggle in Lanka as srilanka is also preparing turners. They won on a green track in India and once in Nagpur where there was reverse Swing. This gen with our spinner you can't win in SC.

When did their bowlers struggle in India? Last time they toured India, they averaged 26. That's 4th best performance for any touring team in India in last 25 years.

They struggled in first test in UAE, then they bowled out Pakistan for low score in 2nd test helping SA to save the series.

This thread is about bowling performances and not about winning. Out of top 4 performances 3 are by SA in India. Green track, turners whatever they rarely get thrashed unless it's a complete patta track.

There is hardly any country where their bowlers had poor outing in last 5-6 years and that still makes them the best bowling unit.

All other teams have struggled in more than 1 country.

Eng - failed in UAE, Ind, Aus

Pak - failed in Aus, SA

Aus - failed in Ind, UAE, Eng, did well in SL

Ind - failed in Eng, SA, NZ, Aus

Performance of SA in last 6 years

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=1;home_or_away=2;home_or_away=3;orderby=team_average;orderbyad=reverse;spanmin1=01+jan+2010;spanval1=span;team=3;team_view=bowl;template=results;type=team;view=series;wrappertype=print

Only time they struggled against opposition was in UAE in 2010, India 2009 and Aus 2012 and all those were super flat pitches where SA still managed to save the series. They won in Aus after their bowlers delivered when it was really needed. UAE 2010 and Ind 2010, I doubt any ATG bowling attack could have done anything on those flat pitches where saffers averaged over 40.
