The word "trundler" shall never ever be used for Bhuvi

Poor Bhuvi has become a lightning rod now - plenty of fans, just waiting for him to have an off day, to jump all over it, and exaggerate it, to prove "their" point right.

In that respect he has entered territory that Umesh Yadav is the master of!

Some guys don't know when to quit, even if the facts are staring them in the face.  Even Bhuvi-doubters have acknowledged that he was a singular contributor in winning the 2nd ODI.  That's not shown by the numbers.  Even phaast phans who lust for Yadav's pace know it in their bones that if he had played at Cuttack instead of Bhuvi, we probably fail to defend 380 there.  But why let facts get in the way of rantings.

Not a rant. We would have won the 3rd ODI if Yadav had played. The trundler wasted the new ball as usual. He just cant get anyone out. Obviously even Joginder Sharma would be able to defend runs against the 8th and 9th batsmen. Cant wait till Shami gets back. Then we would only have to play yadav/Bhuvi as reserves.

Well, what about Bumrah's extremely ordinary series?  He's been smacked around in all 3 games, and was nowhere near his 1st season effectiveness.  We can agree to disagree - but for me, if all pacers are fit - Shami and Bhuvi are the first 2 names for Champions trophy ODIs.  Now I know that's the Bhuvi fan in me speaking - Bumrah has done so well for us over a long period of time in LOI cricket.  Regardless, its a long way to go - let's see what sort of form and fitness the bowlers are in after the IPL.

Bumrah was exceptional in NZ series. He was still ok this series. I think everyone is allowed an off series. Bhuvi and Umesh have played more than 50 games already. Bhuvi cant take wickets and Yadav cant give less than 6 runs per over. We know what they are at this point.

Good for you that you have made up your mind about Bhuvi.  To folks like me, and a few others on ICF - we see Bhuvi as an improved version since the last year or so.  Agree to disagree.

And yes, agree on Bumrah.  He should be given a long rope.  We've never a pacer who can deliver yorkers the way he did for a prolonged period of time.  And I really like the way he mixes up and delivers the variations that has - much wiser bowling brain beyond his years.

Even on Yadav - I see a significant improvement in Yadav as a bowler - just that with that improvement - he has a much stronger case in test cricket, not yet in ODIs.  But again, we can agree to disagree.

In this current era in ODIs, even when seamers bowl well, they tend to go for runs due to multiple factors.  This has been the trend in the last 2 years.

I feel that the best way to contain runs over a period of time is to take wicket taking bowlers in ODIs.

Bhuvi still cant take wickets. Yeah he has improved his yorkers and restricts runs in the death overs but by then he already goes for plenty. And Yadav has improved a lot in ODIs too.

tall bouncy with decent pace bowlers have always proved difficult to be hit in odis
they generally maintains good economy rate like garner ambrose mcgrath morkel harmison hazlewood broad etc.

ishant doesn't qualify because of very low IQ unfortunately
but ankit rajpoot can be tried his list A record is also fantastic

need 2 more decent odi bowlers along with present 3 shami bumrah bhuvi

rajpoot nathu could be they have good list A record ideally 1 left armer would have been better

Laloo i like pace jizz as much as anyone else. But if umesh played second odi we would have lost. May be kedar will learn to finish games now after 3rd odi.

But we would have won the 3rd odi with Yadav so its effectively a wash.

So who would you leave out between Bumrah and Shami?

Or drop Ashwin and play 4 seamers

4 seamers? that too much. But now I think of it I am struggling to come up with a combination.Headache for Virat for sure.

How can we be certain Umesh would have taken wickets with new ball.He had that chance in the first ODI where wicket was initially helpful but failed to take any wickets .Just like Bhuvi in 3rd match .

For all his faults , Bhuvi is still a far superior bowler to Umesh in helpful conditions (swing).A single one off poor performance won't change that.

P.S.

I did want Umesh to be given the whole series because he did well in the Newzealand series and was unfair to be dropped for one poor match. But suggesting we would have won with Umesh instead for Bhuvi for the 3rd ODI is stretching it.

Very good point.

Tall, accurate pacers are difficult to get away.

Sran is one good pick in this regard and he is a left-armer too.

Nathu Singh,  tallish and pacy ,   has very good T20 and List A stats.....has a great yorker too and would be an ideal pick for LOIs.
