Gavaskar was 'tuk tuk' more out of necessity than limitation. 

He had a bad series in West Indies in 1983 (his only bad series against them IIRC), so he decided to attack them, as 'tuk-tuk' wasnt doing the job against them.

Result ? a year or so later,at home, he blasted the West Indies all over the place. Scored 121 off of 128 balls against Marshall, Holding, Davis & Daniel. Then scored a 90 off of 120 balls against the same attack and with his confidence back,went back to being the sheet anchor, scoring a double century against Marshall, Roberts, Holding & Davis.

I heard he was a dasher almost in the Sachin mould in his university and first class days. You are absolutely right...his tuk tuk was born  more out of necessity.

 

infact he had the fastest 100 by Indian in Odis before Azhar broke it iirc.

Well it was perfectly demonstrated in the series i spoke about. Despite Gavaskar's blazing success, Indian middle order was brittle that series, so after much hawing & humming, he & the team management decided that Gavaskar should come in at #4 and increase the momentum. First match he did that (5th test IIRC), West Indies promptly reduced India to 0/2 and Viv made the famous sledge 'Nomatter where you come man, the score is always zero'. So then he tuk-tuk to a double century after coming in at 0/2

HAyden n Sehwag, always liked game changers. Anybody can fail on given day but the day these two will score they will put their team in driver seat. Gavaskar was better than them ofcourse but if its my team ill choose these two to represent my team

My would be gavaskar and Hayden, Hayden was technically more sound than Smith and sehwag, good against both pace and spin, an absolute powerhouse of a player.
