Malcolm Merlyn Posted February 13, 2017 Author Posted February 13, 2017 Didn't Bhuvi take a 5-fer a couple of months ago in that alien foreign exotic ground - Eden Gardens? Did you know that Eden has a new pitch with soil imported from Australia and NZ and presently is perhaps the most pacer friendly pitch in Asia?

Sorry, I wasn't aware that Eden is the new Perth from the 1980s, and has a satellite controlled weather system that mimics the swing friendly conditions of Auckland as well. If it was so pace friendly, how did the other pacers playing for India and NZ perform in the same match? Dude, don't get willful blindness and lose all sense of objectivity, when it comes to players you have already made up your mind about, regardless of current performance and ability. That condition suits greenbro fans, not the blues. kira, Lord, Texan and 1 other 4

BK,Shami,Henry all took 6 wickets in the match.Boult took 5wkts. BK is very good bowler when conditions or pitch help him.In unhelpful conditions he is liablity. He cant sustain 85mph plus speed neither can he reverse it regularly. express bowling 1

So that crucial 7th wicket that he picked up on D4 in the last test with the old ball swung both ways because? Look, no question that Yadav outperforms Bhuvi with reverse and the old ball. And might be a better pick in certain conditions. But no need to run down Bhuvi constantly. In pace friendly conditions, if fit, he's the 2nd pick after Shami. Why the unnecessary hate?
maniac Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Bhuvi is a fantastic 3rd seamer to have...but then again so is Umesh,Ishant and even Aaron. Shami is probably the only one good enough to be the 1st/2nd choice seamer. When will we fill that slot

Why the unnecessary hate? 1.REGULARLY? 2.I said Bhuvi is the top pick in helpful conditions. He has no place in the squad in unhelpful conditions. He is a liablity here.

I wouldn't go as far as calling him a liability....He is very economical and can bat....so he is good as a 3rd seamer....but yes not ahead of Umesh,Ishant or Shami in unhelpful conditions/dry pitches when all 3 are fit....but is still the best available backup.
sandeep Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Bhuvi plays ahead of Ishant barring fitness on any track, especially if Umesh is already playing. Don't need and can't justify both Umesh and Ishant over Bhuvi. I can see the argument if its 2 pacers and Shami is already in, barring that, no way.

Infact on Green tracks or seaming conditions Ishant has as much of a track record as Bhuvi. Umesh and Ishant are different kind of bowlers. In terms of being economical Ishant is pretty effective too. Mosher 1

It is common sense that when India plays abroad in swinging and green conditions, Bhuvi should be our no.1 choice.

Bhuvi's best performance of his career overseas was in England where Ishant won us a test single-handedly before getting injured....on green tracks in Newzealand in favorable conditions he was unplayable...outperformed Zak and Shami. Did well in Srilanka where the conditions were soemwhat bowling friendly...All this happened in the last 2 years. Even on dry pitches like against South Africa in the Delhi test or in the recent test against Bangladesh Ishant showed that he can turn matches when in rhythm...how does Bhuvi stake a claim for being ahead of Ishant? I understand if there is an argument made for Bhuvi vs Umesh in helpful conditions but not Bhuvi vs Ishant. On Dry or flat pitches....Umesh over Bhuvi......in helpful conditions definitely a case can be made for Bhuvi but then again we haven't seen too much of Umesh in helpful conditions Edited February 13, 2017 by maniac Laaloo, Mosher, sscomp32 and 1 other 3 1
Cricketics Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 ^let me tell you one thing- Bhuvi should play as first choice overseas on green and swinging conditions. Bye Lord 1
express bowling Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 (edited) I remember Kohli saying that Ishant is his 2nd fast bowler away from home after Shami. If he is bowling with rhythm, I would agree with this. I would also like to try Aniket Chaudhuri, a tall left arm option ( thus providing a discernable variation ) who can swing the new ball, to see how he does as the 3rd seamer. Tall, bouncy pacers tend to do really well outside Asia. Edited February 13, 2017 by express bowling Mosher 1

Bhuvi played because we wanted to try something different instead of always going with same old 3 spin bowlrs combination. How hard is that to understand? The opposition was Bangladesh and not Australia. If we do not try this kind of stuff against Bangladesh also then when will we ever try three pacers in Indian in test matches? We surely won't be trying much against Australia as we might be back with three spinners. Here was an opportunity to play three fast bowlers and Kohli did that. beetle 1

If opppsition was Australia, he might have played 3 spinners, but seeing green on first day, he had to play Bhuvi and also three spinners. Anway's this wasn't a rank turner that it had to have three spinners. Again, Kohli knows he can wrap the game faster with three spinners, but he knows that this is the best chance to play three seamers and he did that. So what you are calling a mistake isn't it what you think. He knows it and yet he played 3 pacers to provide the opportunity to the fast bowlers.

He picked 3 seamers because of the grass esp. If he lost the toss.He thought BK will move it on that grassy pitch. Your assumption is like Australia playing 2 spinners in Brisbane and saying oh we just wanted to try it out. Sidhoni 1

What the hell you want to do then? Play 3 spinners even against Bangladesh in Indian conditions? I am glad we do not have a captain who thinks like you. Winning with 3 apinners every time is no fun, especially against teams like Bangladesh. We have to try different things and give others some chance. Kohli is the best captain we can have. Now suck it up. He will be better than Dhoni and Ganguly and any other Indian test captain.
