Dhoni is easily amongst top 4 Indian ODI cricketers of all time (Kapil, Sachin and Virat being others) and a strong contender for a slot in the top 10 in an all time Indian cricketers list if both Tests and ODIs are included. ( which were played at 2 year intervals later on and so a lot of chances to win were missed by those earlier captains ) Kapil won a 50 over World Cup, never had the chance to be a captain in either World T20 or CT. Ganguly won a Champion's Trophy and got us to the finals of a 50 over World Cup. ( any Indian team would probably have lost to that Australian Team of 2003 in a ODI played in SA ). Never never had the chance to be a captain in World T20. We didn't win a CT, we shared it because it was rained off.Claiming it as win is lame stuff. Ganguly didn't win any ICC tournaments.Considering our record in finals under Ganguly we were pretty certain to choke it as well. Oh Ganguly captained us in 2 other CTs and Aussies didn't win any of them. As for the excuse for thr final in 2003 ,Maybe then he should have batted first of being ultra defensive and bowling first . Heck leave alone world cups and Champions trophies , we chocked in almost every final we played under him.And considering we were a pretty good team under Azhar in finals all he did was turn us into a team of chockers.

Yes top 5 odi player but the delusions are putting him in top 5 Indian player not just odi .

Rained out final means joint winners. No one wins all ICC trophies. Joint winner in one CT and Runner up in the only World Cup is not that bad for a captain who has been captain in 4 ICC tournaments including only 1 World Cup. It is strange that you use the word " excuse " as I am talking about your country's performance only. Sort of validates the point of this thread. Other Indian captains did not get a chance for a world cup at home Fair point about the WT20 though the fact he was chosen as captain tells us there was something in him which wasn't there in Sehwag, Yuvi etc. Of course Sachin had a role to play in that. No other team had won a WC playing at home till then so how exactly was that a golden chance? If anything the pressure on that team was much much greater than any other of our WC teams because of the fact we were playing at home. Rasgulla and sscomp32 2

Certainly atg Indian great and waaaay superior to dhoni . Dhoni could only dream of playing some knocks he did overseas
