NareshK
Bowling with great pace, swing and control today. Shami, Bumrah, Bhuvi, Hardik and Kuldeep should be the bowling attack in SA with Umesh and Jaddu/Ashwin as backup. CG 1 Link to comment

He will always be an inconsistent bowler who will have a few good days and mostly bad days. Not good enough to be considered a test bowler. Needs to make way for someone else. Link to comment

Took the responsibility of leading the pace attack in absence of Shami and did the job really well. express bowling 1 Link to comment

This is what you get with Umesh and we have already seen enough of him to know that he will always remain inconsistent. He will not turn suddenly into some wicket taking bowler at this stage of his career. If you pick mediocrity, you will get mediocre results. Link to comment

Umesh looked tired to me after 20 tests, the IPL and loads of ODIs in the last 12 months There needs to be a rotation policy for our fit pacers too. mancalledsting and Mosher 2 Link to comment
vvvslaxman
I am still not entirely convinced about his ability in longer format. You need genuine outswing bowler in Tests. After Kapil dev we had very few. Balaji and Sreesanth that's it. Wish someone like Sandeep sharma had added some pace to his bowling. Link to comment

Many of them were not swing bowlers even and depended on seam movement and bounce. Link to comment

If you really want to play him out, you think it is so hard to play him out? Bulk of his wickets come during death overs or when there is pressure to accelerate Link to comment

Batters could not play him out trying to defend. Lots of jaffas and plays-and-misses apart from the wickets. And none of the other 5 pacers looked that dangerous. Bumrah has accuracy, pace, bounce and seam movement ..... can swing it if conditions help. Could be ideal for tests. The only thing I want to find out is whether he can sustain intensity and pace bowling 15+ overs a day. Won't know till he plays in a couple of tests. Zaheer used to be so good for few overs. But his second spell would average around 125k. I won't jump the gun yet. I have seen Test specialists over the years. Bumrah has a long way to go before establishing himself as a seamer. Link to comment

We need to just try him out in a couple of tests ( only way to find out where he stands ) .... no need to jump the gun regarding how he would fare. Link to comment
Lannister
Shami, Umesh, Bumrah and Hardik should be the pick of fast bowlers for the first Test match against SA, if we ever hope to win. Link to comment
renjith
It will be idiotic now not to try bumrah in tests. express bowling 1 Link to comment
Sean Bradley
must be tried in subcontinent conditions, if he can get reverse swing going with those yorkers could turn out to be a handy prospect. Edited August 28, 2017 by Sean Bradley Link to comment
