Great decision. Very mindful of responsibility towards performance. Not sure Shreyas Iyer is the right one to lead the T20 team.

Pant could have.....but he is their highest scorer and being captain would have effected his batting.

Guys like Pant and Maxy can help.

Rishabh would have been a better choice imo. He is a retained player. They should have chose one considering next IPL as well.

Iyer is also retained.

Iyer is DDs golden boy.

He is older.

Pant is barely 20 and was removed from Delhi captaincy because it was  effecting his game according to  the the delhi big shots.

Shreyas is not as good a T20 batsman as Rishabh is. You never know whether he will be in playing 11's as frequently as Rishabh is.It's better imo to select a established T20 players as captain over someone who is relatively very less prolific in T20. The confidence due to success in the format can flow in captaincy as well.

Yes, Shreyas was retained, along with Morris and Rishabh.

Pant has experience too.

May be he was reluctant because Gambo is his delhi bhaiya and it could be ackward.

The point you mentioned in previous post is valid. I also came across reports that Rishabh's form was affected by captaincy in domestic cricket. Probably this is a stop gap solution. Punter is possibly avoiding putting more pressure on their most prolific batsman this season. It's a fair decision. Might give it to Rishabh afresh next season.

He retired after team won the IPL IIRC and he cited his age. If it is for performance he should have quit much before that.

If I recall correctly, both Sachin & Ponting (Pondulkar) dropped themselves in mid series citing poor form and Rohit started leading the side. Ponting never played again but Sachin came back as a player in the later part of IPL.

That is about retirement. Not sure about stepping down before that.
