Did Kohli's injury hand India the Border-Gavaskar Trophy?

This is the quintessential sliding doors moment for the series for me.

Had Kohli played, India may have not have played Kuldeep and in doing so may not have rolled Australia out for 300 in the first innings meaning they could have put up a better 1st innings score and therefore had a decent lead when batting second placing a lot of pressure on India.

We will never truly know? Its all guesswork as to what may have happened.

However, it is an interesting and fascinating discussion point.

Not only Kuldeep, Rahane's captaincy has also helped the team to remain focused. Maju has summed it up quite nicely. I don't think I've to elaborate it any further

''Manjrekar: Rahane personality gets his team to focus on the game not on other things which comes with Virat's personality. With that everyone remains focussed on the game including people who are watching it
The focus is entirely on the field that comes with rahane personality......''

So yes, kohli's injury has indeed helped India to retain the B:G trophy

After  India 's win. you must be desperately looking for Burnol...

There is some limit to idiotism, please grow up kids, kohli is the best skipper we were ever had and mark my word he will be the best in our history!!! Ajinkya is his deputy and will always be, patience, hard work, smartness and aggression is what we needed to change our horrendous overseas record ! And I think kohli has it in him to change it, so just keep calm !!a

Weren't you constantly advocating 4 bowlers over 5 when Kohli was going with it? You cannot have it both ways man

Kuldeep could have replaced Nair if Kohli was fit.

A decision was taken to play a wrist spinner as the 5th bowler in place of the 6th batsman.

That decision was taken by Rahane

Along with kumble. I don't think kumble is not in talking terms with Kohli. :giggle: 5 bowlers was suggested by Rahane since he was going to be captain and kuldeep inclusion was pushed by Kumble.

Nonsensical thread again, even after getting an egg on your face, you don't learn, do you?

We beat australia easily, we dominated the last 3 tests, and we did it without any contribution from kohli, ashwin, shami, rahane, vijay. Even with half the team not performing, we won 2-1 after being 1-0 down, all the aussie fangirls have been brought down to earth, I know you were itching to bump your australian invasion thread but India winning the series put an end to that :hehe:, so you decided to open an even more ridiculous thread

I was wrong.

Happy to admit it. Thats why I am not Indian team captain and dont get paid big bucks for the same.

Yeah so would Kuldeep have played if Kohli wasn't injured?

Kuldeep would've definitely played, the Indian team management knows that Ashwin isn't even 50%, they had to manage the workload, Kuldeep was the trump card India was saving for the last match if the series didn't go according to plan.

In place of whom?

Nair of course or maybe even rahane. India lost the first test and failed to finish the third test because ashwin didn't fire, surely the Indian team knew the problem area, so kuldeep playing was never in doubt.

If Nair was ready to be dropped why didn't they play Iyer especially after calling him in?

 Nair would've been dropped if kohli was fit, How does Iyer even come into the picture?  Nair or Rahane would've been dropped to accommodate an extra bowler and not for any new batsman.

I highly doubt that. Especially after Kohli saying it was Rahane's plan to go with 5 bowlers. But I guess we'll never know.
