His action was pretty clean in those days and may have wreaked havoc but was bread and butter for Indians without doosra and blatant chucking he started doing later on, especially, in that small ground on a flat pitch.

The controversy was still there.

He was exactly not bread and butter either. Till then he had picked 20 wickets against India in 20 matches, with an economy of 4.32, so a 10-0-43-1 type of bowler. Fairly restraining, not easy to put away kind of bowler.

Hard to pick between Kohli and Dhoni's knocks. Kohli, the master of the chase, played the perfectly paced knock and that too against arch rivals. Dhoni, on the other hand played a brutal knock of awesome power hitting unseen in Indian cricket at that time. Fact that it came against Lanka who had tormented us with several Jayasuriya knocks in the past was a bonus. Just for the fact that we found a keeper who could bat so brutally and consistently at a time when we were struggling to find a decent keeper batsman, I would go with Dhoni's knock.

Actually Dhoni's 100 against Pak was a great one. Credit where due, no bias. That was his greatest knock(quality wise) and I have no hesitation in putting it at about the same level as 10th best Dada/Kohli knock or 30th best SRT knock in ODIs.

Ganguly's knock will be considered a little more imortant because it came at a ten when we could have been knocked out of the world cup. We had to beat all Kenya, Wnfland and Lanka to qualify for super 6 stage. So Ganguly's knock and Dravid with him were special that day.

I have a question. Would we have made it to the semis if we had beat Zimbabwe in the super six? Was only six when 99 WC happened.

We never played Zimbabwe in super six, we played them in regular game. We faced teams from other group in the super six which were NZ, Pak and Aus.

We lost to Saf and Zim in group games, our first two games.

Man if you don't like my posts put me on your ignore list. I personally have no enmity with you. In a cricket forum there will be differing opinions. Deal with it.

Dhoni's knock shouldn't even be on that list.

Kohli's was awesome because it helped us humiliate Pakistan in front of a hostile Dhaka crowd in a must win match.

Dada's was awesome because in that era(specifically that WC) such huge scores were unheard of. He did it in Taunton(overseas) and against the defending champs. Come to think of it, his knock was as good as Kohli's . :thinking:

Dhoni's 183 was one of the most inconsequential knocks in a forgettable series. That too on an Indian patta. :hysterical:Give me a break.

Out of 10 I will grade them as:

Kohli=9.5

Dada=9.5

Dhoni=6

The former 2 will be among top 10 ODI knocks by an Indian ever, Dhoni's 100 won't find a place in top 50  top 100. :phehe:

:rofl: Poor guy. Dhoni must have refused an autograph sometime somewhere that's why he became like that Gaurav of Fan movie :giggle:

We didn't get beaten by Zim in super six, but in league matches... Had we won that match against them, Zim might not hv qualified for super 6, England or Srilanka wud hv qualified, India wud hv gone to super 6 with 2 points instead of 0... They won against Pakistan in super 6, another win against NZ in the next match would hv got India into semis...

Even after being beaten by Zim, we could hv qualified with 2 points, if South Africa could win against Zim..

Oh ok. Thanks for the info. Seemed like a confusing format though.

Dhoni was a joke

He is the biggest con artist in indian cricket who took everything to his advantage. If the team wins and he doesn't perform they attribute it to his captaincy,If he some how performs he is the greatest finisher, matchwinner and atg captain and the hype goes to unreal levels,If the team fails the team is rubbish, bowlers are rubbish. If the same rubbish bowlers perform it is because of his unbelievable imaginative captaincy Ms dhoniis everything according to his fans and never about other players or their performance.He is in a win win situation all the time in indian cricket. Anybody who question his authority or performance are booted out.

Here is India vs SL match highlights video.

Looks overcast at the start. Balls that got Ramesh and beat Dravid from Vass, actually swung quite a bit.

The outfield though seems scary fast.

That is what... Overcast condition, ball swinging, Ramesh looked clueless against Vaas... Even Ganguly was scratchy in the beginning... Dravid was lot mote fluent right from the start.. Dada took some time to get into flow..
